My Life
I was back at work for 5 days this week and it was hard. Okay, not really but I did enjoy those shorter weeks that I had recently. It was nice having our daughter home from college but it is a bit of an adjustment for all three of us living in the house. The dogs think that having someone available to let them in and out all day is fabulous, although my daughter would not agree.
I did spend some time outside working on the yard and tackling the weeds. I did get some weed and feed down in a couple of the flower beds and I hope that it makes a difference. My azaleas are in full bloom and my peonies are not behind.
What I’m Reading
I finished 3 books this week. I had such a good time with the full cast narration of The Anatomy of Desire by L.R. Dorn. Next up, I was finally able to find some time to dedicate to Bath Haus by P.J. Vernon and I absolutely loved it. As I write this, I am almost done with Brat: An ’80s Story by Andrew McCarthy which is not a book that I would normally pick up but am enjoying.
I am a little more than halfway through the audiobook of One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. I didn’t really read this book’s description and it has been a wonderful surprise so far. I have just started reading Kill All Your Darlings by David Bell. I have liked his books in the past but I haven’t read enough of this one to form an opinion yet.

No new book weeks always makes me feel virtuous – and like it’s perfectly okay for me to go buy books! Your azaleas are beautiful! The blooms are gone off ours now and I miss them! And so jealous of your peonies. They’re some of my favorite flowers. I hope you have a great week!
My azaleas have bloomed later than most in my area. The spot where they are planted doesn’t get a ton of light so I think that might be the reason. I kind of want to plant them everywhere because they are so pretty!
I feel like people underestimate working 5 days a week, when I tell them I’m going to switch back to 4 days. They kinda don’t understand why?…
I’ve been working for 5 days for 1.5 years now, but next schoolyear I will be working 4 days and I’m really looking forward to it 🙂
I would love to work a 4 day work week. I have been working 5 days a week for a very long time. It is amazing that just taking a couple of vacation days a couple of weeks in a row can make a full week seem so much longer.
I feel you on those first full weeks back after short weeks. I am acting all dramatic now. Imagine how I will be when I have to go back to my commute. I bet there will be tears. Your flowers look beautiful! I admire your green thumb.
I am so lucky that I don’t have much of a commute. I leave the office and pull into my garage 15 minutes later. Those couple of weeks where I took vacation made the lighter weeks seem like a good idea!
I love your garden! Enjoy…and your books look good, too. I want to read the David Bell book, and I also enjoy Andrew McCarthy and have loved his movies.

I can’t believe that I didn’t add anything! I think that it might be the first time that it has happened.
Your flowers look beautiful! I love azaleas! They’re always so pretty! We had one for the longest time but eventually it stopped coming back and my mom didn’t care to replace it. Still love them though!

Isn’t it interesting how we can adjust fast to shorter work weeks? I went through that, too, especially after long vacation weeks. So hard to get back at the grindstone.

The flowers are so pretty. I think if I had a house with a backyard, Falcor would be wanting to be out there all the time.
We did have to add some fencing to protect the garden areas from my 3 destructive doggies 🙂
I love seeing the flowers! My peonies are babies and probably won’t bloom this year. I had a few very small weeds to pull but mostly in the rock areas where I didn’t use Preen. It may take a bit to get things set but then it will be easy.

One of my peony bushes is absolutely huge! I just noticed that I have a ton of weeds back in the rock areas around the pool. Weeds are my nemesis!

Well, I only took a couple of days spread out over 2 weeks but you can get used to extra days off pretty quickly.

I didn’t get as much reading done over the weekend as I’d wanted, but I am about halfway through the YA book Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating which is good.

It seems like shorter work weeks would be a better plan. I don’t see that happening for me though. Are you going to listen to The Anatomy of Desire because I feel like that is the best way to experience the story. One Last Stop was really good!

Going back to full time working is going to be hard on everyone.. thankfully my husband is going only once a week right now.. but it’s going to ramp up to 4 days a week by the time summer is over. His office is considering keeping Friday a flexible day.
I have had to go into work for full work weeks during the pandemic after just a couple of work from home weeks at the very start. I did enjoy the few vacation days that I took recently though.

I love the azaleas. I grew up with them, but don’t have any now. I might have to add some. I have some bushes that are looking bad and need torn out anyway. 🙂

Going back five days a week after several shortened weeks would be a struggle. I feel for you, Carole. I can also imagine it’s been a bit of an adjustment with your daughter home for the summer. Even though it’s been more years than I care to admit since my college days, I remember what that was like, returning home after being on my own all those months. I hope you are enjoying your current reads! I just started a nonfiction novel and have a feeling I am going to need a light side read to go along with it. I hope you are having a great week!
It does change the dynamic of the household to have an extra person there. We love having her home but it is an adjustment. I think that she is a little bored by her old parents and I don’t blame her.
