My Life

This week has been kind of blah. I had a slight headache for most of the week and a lot of eye strain. My eyesight isn’t great. I have two different pairs of glasses that I wear. One pair works for distance with bifocals for up close and the other pair is for computer distance with bifocals for up close. I updated my main pair of glasses this year but didn’t buy a new pair for the computer but I am starting to think that I need an update soon. I just couldn’t look at a computer for very long after my eight-hour workday this week. I am going to be working to catch up this week!

The good news is that I am officially on vacation right now! Woo Hoo! My youngest daughter is going to be home from college and I have a few things to do but I am going to try to spend some time just catching up on things, reading, getting ready for the holiday, and just being lazy. Oh yeah, my birthday is tomorrow as well. Of course, before I do a lot of celebrating I need to get my kitchen painted today. I am getting better at painting but I don’t think that I will ever like it and kitchens are the worst!

We have two different Thanksgiving gatherings planned for the next week or so. I will be going to my Mom’s house on Thursday. I am bringing dessert which is really what I like cooking more than anything else. I also decided to make some homemade cranberry sauce to bring just because I feel like eating it. A week from today, we are hosting my husband’s family for Thanksgiving. My husband is the youngest of 6 kids so it could be quite the crowd if all my nieces and nephews are able to make it.

What are your plans for Thanksgiving if you celebrate?

What I’m Reading

I finished 3 books this week. I really enjoyed The Rogue King by Abigail Owen and posted my review yesterday. I listened to Eleanor by Jason Gurley during the workweek and found it to be a very well done and emotional story. I had a great time with To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before by Lizzie Shane was a fun romance starring an adorable dog named Dory. Two of these three books were recent Books from the Backlog picks so I am calling this a win!

I am working on three books right now. I have only really 10% of The Sea King by C.L. Wilson but hope to be able to finish it this week. I have made more progress with The Operator by Kim Harrison and am currently at the 40% mark. I also started reading Owl and the Japanese Circus by Kristi Charish and have only read the first two chapters but am enjoying it so far.

Books Added

The Witch’s Daughter & City of Time and Magic by Paula Brackston (Publisher)

  1. Sorry to hear about your eyes straining. Hope you’re able to get into the doctor soon and maybe get a new prescription for them. I’m waiting on my new insurance to kick in before maybe trying to go. I don’t quite go once a year like I should. Happy almost Birthday though!! Glad to hear you’ll be off this week and can maybe enjoy your birthday, after the kitchen gets painted! Oddly my stepdad is the youngest of six kids too! Not sure if they plan to do a Thanksgiving gathering either this year just yet, I haven’t heard. So far it sounds like we’re having a lot of my mom’s relatives coming over as well as my sister and her kids. It’s going to be one packed little house here!

Nice new reads! Those are both new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them once you get to read them!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. Two Thanksgivings – like a boss. I hope they are both amazing. May your birthday be the happiest of days! The name = To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before *heart-eyes*

  3. I hope you have a great thanksgiving. I definitely think I am going to need some blue light protection on my glasses since I am working with a computer at work now too. I don’t want to be at risk of getting headaches more often. I really enjoyed The Sea King, so I hope you enjoy that one. I can’t wait to check out your review of Rogue King—such an interesting plot line right?

  4. I feel for you having the headaches and the eye strain. It took me two years to get my eyeglasses prescription right, but it made all the difference in the world. Glad you are on vacay and can look forward to family visiting. I’m not a fan of painting, either, but there are the lovely results at least. Way to go getting to two books from the backlog pile.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  5. Happy birthday! I hope your eye strain improves. It can be a challenge!

I don’t envy you the painting…but your upcoming week sounds good. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing, and have a great Thanksgiving!

  6. I hope you feel better this week! Happy birthday, and yay for being on vacation. I don’t really care for Thanksgiving, I have to be honest, but I do have some fun plans later in the week with friends I don’t often see so that’s exciting. My reading has been really slow this month, which is a bummer. You’re doing well!
