I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

This was a pretty average week. The only thing out of the ordinary was the storm that we had on Thursday. We didn’t get a lot of snow but there was some sleet and ice. The local library that my husband works for decided to close for the day and the owner of the small business that I work for decided that we would work from home. I spent some time dealing with work things but I was able to spend a good part of the day reading. I was surprised on Friday when I was told that I could have a late start since the road might still be slick in some areas. I don’t mind winter storms so much when it means I get an extra day off!

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 3 books this week. I enjoyed The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood but I wasn’t blown away by it like I had expected to be. I then moved on to Breath of Scandal by Sandra Brown which I really liked and am thrilled to clear another past-due NetGalley book from my tbr. I spent my listening time focused on White Witch, Black Curse by Kim Harrison and am convinced that this series just gets better with each book.

I have read about 30 pages of Sundial by Catriona Ward and I am very curious to see where things are going. I started reading Hideout by Louisa Luna next and was hooked right away. I am currently at the 40% mark and can’t wait to see how things work out. I have listened to 15% of If You Want to Make God Laugh by Bianca Marais and have started to get a feel for the 3 points of view in the story.

Books Added

Built to Last by Erin Hahn (NetGalley); Heroic Hearts edited by Jim Butcher and Kerrie L. Hughes (NetGalley); Suburban Hell by Maureen Kilmer (NetGalley)

The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun (Purchased)

  1. I loved that picture with your dog when I saw it the other day. Too cute! Maybe the hype hurt Love Hypothesis for you. I read it early without many opinions, and I really enjoyed it. I hope when I return to office they will consider WFH when the weather is bad. We have been having some odd weather lately. Thursday into Friday it was very warm (60s) with huge wind gusts and torrential downpours. I was happy to still be at home.

    • I did enjoy The Love Hypothesis but it was definitely 4-star territory for me. I expected it to be a definite 5 after seeing so many glowing reviews and finding it on so many best-of lists. It was good though.

I work for a very small office and I share my opinion very freely with the owner. There have been days in the past that we have been expected to come in when it was just dumb. Our company services other businesses locally so there is no point to be there when most businesses are closed.

  2. What a week you have had. I really think that some of these books get hyped up so much that our expectations going into them can leave us a bit disappointed. I am not expecting to be blown away because most of these hyped-up illustrated reads seem more mediocre to me. But I do want to read it so I can see why its so loved by everyone. I have always enjoyed Sandra Brown as an author so I am happy that one worked out for you so well.

  3. I feel bad for the kids here that never get a snow day. You would think that kids would get to stay home if it’s 118 because it’s too brain boiling hot to be walking to and from school. lol

  4. Well I am glad to hear it wasn’t a bad week and you got to relax and read a bit. It’s exciting you are catching up on your Netgalley reads. I have enjoyed the later Hollows books even more than the early ones.

  5. Love your Instagram pic! What a sweet face. Getting a snow day definitely makes winter storms easier to deal with – not that we have many! Have a wonderful week!

  6. We had like 4 differents huge storms here over the past 2 weeks. Right now it’s raining so hard! I’m kinda bummed out by it, because I’m walking a lot and now I can’t.

I’ll just have to read now! Which isn’t that bad, haha.

  7. Glad you didn’t have to get out in that ice. That scares me a lot, I hate driving in icy weather. It isn’t so much my driving that scares me, I go slow and really take it easy. It is the people who drive like it is any other day that scare me. Have a great week.

  8. We had a weird day of 50 degree weather followed by a terrible snow storm. Commuting was absolute hell but now we’re somehow back in the 50s? I don’t understand.

I’m happy you enjoyed The Love Hypithesis!

  9. Nice that you got to work from home with dangerous road conditions!

It’s a bummer when you finally get to a book that’s been hyped and not have it meet your expectations. I love crossing off old NG books! Such a good feeling. I want Heroic Hearts just for Asil’s story. Will have to request that one, but maybe I’ll wait until it comes out from the library so I don’t have to read all the other stories.

  10. It was so nice out this weekend and today it’s been overcast. It started raining right about the time I had to pick up my daughter from her grandmother’s house, of course. I love the rain, but don’t so much driving in it. I hope you enjoy The Charm Offensive. I am really interested in reading Hideout. I am glad you are enjoying it! I love the photo of your dog. 🙂 I hope you have a great week, Carole!
