I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

I was unusually exhausted this week. My husband and I have both been dragging. I don’t know if it is the time change or what but I don’t like it. We were in bed earlier than normal and slept but found myself yawning all day. I wondered if I was getting sick but am feeling more normal now so who knows what was going on.

On Friday night, I talked my non-reader husband into going with me to John Scalzi’s event at our local library. He was hilarious! I really had a great time listening to him talk and am excited to read his new book, The Kaiju Preservation Society. I almost talked myself out of going since we have been so tired but I am glad I went.

Saturday night, we are hosting another sleepover with the twins so I am writing this post a little earlier than normal. Hopefully, everyone makes it through the night this time without getting sick.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 3 books this week. Owl and the Electric Samurai by Kristi Charish was a fun listen and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. It took me a long time to make my way through A Blight of Blackwings by Kevin Hearne but it was definitely worth it. Since several people told me I would be okay to read Ride Steady by Kristen Ashely as a stand-alone, I decided to jump in and I am only sorry that I waited so long to read this author.

I started reading Do Not Forsake Me by Rosanne Bittner on my Kindle. This is a series that I hope to catch up on this year and this book is off to a good start. I have also started reading Unmasked: My Life Solving America’s Cold Cases by Paul Holes and it is proving to be a book that is hard to put down. I have only listened to a little bit of Watchers of the Dead by Simon Beaufort but am looking forward to spending more time with this Victorian mystery in the coming week.

Books Added

Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen (NetGalley)

Elsewhere by Alexis Schaitkin (Publisher)

  1. Ashley is one of those authors everyone talks about, but I have yet to read any of her books. Glad you enjoyed your introduction to her work. I have been especially tired this week too, but I just attribute it to mood and being old. Hope you had a fun sleepover!

    • I feel like I waited a long time to finally get to this book. I am glad that it turned out to be a good one.

  2. You could be feeling delayed effects from DST. I mean I know it takes me awhile to adjust mentally and physically to the time change. Maybe your body was slow to catch up. I wasn’t familiar with this author, hence why I didn’t appear at the signing. I feel like SLCL doesn’t like picking the adult authors I read. Or maybe it’s a genre thing that they don’t want to bring them in or something! I’m still trying to see if Kim Harrison will tour this year since Covid restrictions are easing but I haven’t seen her say anything yet. I don’t know, when I look back not too many of my “adult” authors did much touring, I only got to see them at the big conferences that they don’t even host anymore. Sigh…

Nice new reads though! I hope you enjoy each and every one of them! Hope the sleepover went well last night too and no one was sick!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I have noticed that a lot of my favorite authors haven’t been here for a while. I decided to take a chance and go and it was so worth it. Authors know how to tell a story and are often great speakers. Scalzi was a blast!

  3. Fun that you got to go meet and hear John Scalzi even though you were so tired all week. I slept more than usual, but I was struggling with allergy symptoms too so I figure it was that. Hope the sleepover goes well.
Glad Ride Steady went well and the Rosanne Bittner series is one of my favorite western romances.

    Have a good week, Carole!

    • My husband and I were both exhausted. We were in bed before 8 one night. Hopefully, life can go back to normal now.

  4. How great that you got to enjoy the Scalzi event. I miss going to bookish events, but perhaps we will be able to do all of these things again soon. Or someday.

Enjoy your books and your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  5. That is so exciting about John Scalzi at your library! I am glad to see people wearing masks. I thought your husband worked at the library but now I think I must be confused. It’s either the time change or the fresh wave of pollen here. I hope you have a much better week ahead!!

Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

    • He does work at the library but he hasn’t read a single book since I met him over 23 years ago except the few audiobooks that I have forced on him during road trips.

  6. I am so happy that you enjoyed that Kristen Ashley. She is one of my favorites for a reason. And you are reading DO NOT FORSAKE ME I am so so happy. They are probably my favorite couple I have ever read. Hope you enjoy reading that one.

    Have a great week Carole!

  7. I heard my mom saying the same yesterday, she’s so tired! And so am I. We went for a walk yesterday but cut it short because we were exhausted. Afterwards she slept on the couch and I read my book on the couch, lol…

I always have a hard time with the “lost hour”, is what I call it… Hopefully you’ll feel better next week!

  8. I have been absolutely exhausted the last week or so and am not a fan! I’m glad you are starting to feel a bit more normal. Hope your energy comes back as we get used to the DST. The John Scalzi event sounds fun and that’s great your husband went with you. Have a wonderful week!

  9. That’s great you went to the author event and had a great time. I’ve been more tired this year with my new job, etc. so I’m often going to be early. hah

Unmasked is on my wish list. so glad it’s a good one!
