My Life

This turned out to be a pretty good week overall. I woke up with a headache on Sunday but tried to ignore it. I made the bunny cake and deviled eggs and then headed to my mom’s house to help with the rest of the meal. I did enjoy myself and tried to ignore the headache but by the time we got home, I was worn out. I still had the headache when I woke up on Monday and it stuck around that whole day as well. On Tuesday, I was finally headache free. A two-day headache is kind of horrible. I write my reviews the night before they go live so Monday and Tuesday were quiet on the blog since I wasn’t up to writing anything.

Here’s the cake. I called him my deranged bunny since one eye is bigger than the other. Oh well.

The rest of the week was pretty normal. I like normal. I walked my dogs, went to work, read some books, worked on the blog, and did a few things around the house. On Saturday, I bought a new pair of tennis shoes since mine were worn out and we took my mom to buy a lawnmower and went out to eat. My husband cut our grass for the first time this year. Our house got to be kind of hot on Friday and we decided to turn on the AC. It is April and we already have the AC on. We are obviously wimps when it comes to being hot.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 4 books this week. I read The Last Victim by Jordan Dane which turned out to be a very well-done mystery thriller. I listened to Dead Beautiful by Yvonne Woon which was enjoyable but I doubt that I will read more of the trilogy. Next, I listened to Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti and really liked the post-apocalyptic setting. I am planning to work my way through the Scorpius Syndrome series over the next few months. The Goal by Elle Kennedy was another solid installment in the Off-Campus series. I have to admit that I will be a little sad when I read the final book in this series next month. Of course, there is a spin-off series that I might have to get my hands on.

I started reading Tear Down the Throne by Jennifer Estep a few days ago and have only read a bit but am enjoying it. I have listened to not quite half of Pale Demon by Kim Harrison and am loving it so far.

Books Added

The Island by Adrian McKinty (NetGalley); Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews (NetGalley); Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn (NetGalley)

  1. I’m glad the headache is gone. I had a few days like that a week ago as well, really awful.

That cake you made is so beautiful! Sometimes things are just too gorgeous to eat, haha.

  2. Sorry about the headache. Two hours of headache is too much, never mind two days. Your bunny cake is a masterpiece. I couldn’t make that happen. Do you have The Legacy? I was really pleased that Kennedy made that happen. It was nice to see where all the couples were after a bit.

    • Yeah, a two-day headache is just rude. I do have The Legacy ready to go and am looking forward to reading it in May. It has been a great series.

  3. I thought your cake turned out really nice! Love the details and it took me a bit to notice the eye thing. So hardly noticeable! Great job! We had to turn our AC on this week too. So you’re not a wimp at all! I was the only one among my work group who was sad about this weather we’re getting. Apparently everyone I know loves St. Louis heat!

Nice new reads! Those are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I would have fixed the eyes if I had had time but I decided it was good enough to eat at a family function. The dogs were hot and they would have kept us up with their panting so I told my husband to turn the AC on.

  4. Oh, I’m sorry about the headaches that didn’t want to quit! I hate headaches. Mine are usually caused by my neck issues…When I stretch in the mornings, that helps, but not always. Sigh.

    Hope this week is better.

Your books look good. I am curious about The Last Victim.

    Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

    • I have a lot of arthritis in my neck as well. This wasn’t a migraine level headache but it did wear me out.

  5. Hi Carole! I think your bunny cake is simply gorgeous! I definitely can’t bake like that. Ugh, headache. I tend to get hormonal headaches that will last for 2 – 3 days and I hate it! So all my sympathies to you.

Ooooe The Island and Killers of a Certain Age are catching my attention.

Have a good week and happy reading!

    • Thank you! I think that my headache might have been related to all of the pollen in the air. Headaches are the worst!

  6. oh my goodness….that bunny cake is just adorable!!! Looks like you got some great reads there. I am thrilled to see that you are enjoying that Off Campus seriesm, they are such solid NA romances.

  7. I think you did a great job with the bunny cake. You are reading some great books. Some I have read and some I want to read. Pale Demon was one of my favorites in the series. This is the time of year where I have on the AC upstairs and the heat downstairs. BUT these few days are about 90 so the AC went on downstairs this morning.

    • The best thing is that when I make a cake everyone seems to really like it. I always make gluten-free so it is nice that my husband and daughter can eat with everyone. I am really enjoying Pale Demon.

  8. Your bunny cake is adorable. I haven’t done a molded and decorated cake in years. Bummer about the headache sticking around. I had a head cold earlier this week so I slept a lot a few days. I picked up Ruby Fever and Killers of a Certain Age, too.

    Have a good week, Carole!

    • It has been so long since I have done a cake, I knew that I needed to keep it easy. I can’t wait to read Ruby Fever and Killers of a Certain Age!

  9. I think the cake looks fantastic! I’m so sorry about the headache. I’ve noticed mine always flares up with weather changes and it is so annoying. I think we first turned our AC on in March if that makes you feel any better! Have a great week!

    • I have a feeling that my headache had a lot to do with the weather. As soon as it gets uncomfortable, we turn on the AC. No need to sweat!

    • If I hadn’t had a headache, I would have fixed the eyes but I decided it was good enough in the end.
