I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.
My Life
It was a quiet week which was good. We hung out at home last Sunday and Monday. I got a lot of reading done and worked to try to keep one of my dogs calm during all of the fireworks. It was a short work week which I appreciated. It was really hot for most of the week so I made getting in the pool a priority.
Today we are going dress shopping for my daughter’s wedding. Wish me luck!
How was your week?
What I’m Reading
I was able to finish 5 books this week thanks to having Monday off and reading some shorter books. I really enjoyed Elsewhere by Alexis Schaitkin and found the concept to be really interesting. Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan was everything that I had hoped it would be. What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher helped me to pass the time at work. I then moved on to Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep which I first read almost 11 years ago but remembered very little. Love Lessons by Sarina Bowen proved to be a very solid romance.
I have read about two-thirds of December ’41 by William Martin and am enjoying it. I only set it aside because I realized I have a couple of reviews promised next week and I needed to change my focus if I wanted to meet those obligations. I have just started reading Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik and am looking forward to it.
Books Added
Dead Man’s Hand by James J. Butcher (Publisher); Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison (Publisher); The Bodyguard by Katherine Center (Publisher); Upgrade by Blake Crouch (Publisher)

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Dress shopping – how exciting! I hope your daughter finds something amazing (and quickly). So glad to hear such great things about Whelan’s new book. I have that coming up. I have high hopes as I adored her last book. Wow! A Mythos book. It’s been a long while since I read those.
One of my oldest NetGalley books is the last book in the Mythos series so I am planning to work my way through that series before this year ends so I can scratch that book from my list.
Good luck with the dress shopping! I remember going with my sister for her shopping trip. It was stressful…but I don’t think it took more than 2-3 stores top, so that was a plus! Luckily our old dog is going death, so if there were any fireworks going–I totally fell asleep early as I didn’t sleep much that weekend due to dinging Stranger Things every night–I didn’t hear them!
Nice new reads! Ooooh that Such Sharp Teeth sounds interesting! I love werewolves so I’m off to go see what that’s about!
Happy Reading!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Dress shopping was a success! We were able to get both of my daughters taken care of at the first store.
I loved The Bodyguard! Enjoy your upcoming week, and thanks for sharing.
I have been hearing great things about The Bodyguard!
Yes, keeping the cats copacetic during the fireworks wasn’t easy. But after trying to stick it out with the noise, they finally stayed hidden under the couch in the basement each night. Our neighborhood is particularly enthusiastic about fireworks. 🙂 Way to go getting through a nice stack of books this week. Helps that a few were shorter. I’ve been doing a Christmas in July RAT and a few of those were novellas so made me look good on the GR numbers. Hope the dress shopping is successful!
Have a good week, Carole!
The fireworks can get a bit crazy at my house. I am just glad that they are over for a while.
I’ve been having quieter weeks since this heat wave hit. Finally we are getting some rain yesterday. You have some great books there! Good luck with the dress shopping. I always hope for pockets.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
My youngest daughter is a huge fan of pockets. She even found a wedding dress for my oldest to try on that had pockets.
Such Sharp Teeth sound interesting.
Have a great week.
I can’t wait to read it!
The fireworks were crazy here. I stayed inside to keep Falcor calm too. He was fine as long as we weren’t outside.
One of my dogs shakes the whole time fireworks are going off. It is kind of pathetic!
come great looking books. happy reading
sherry @ fundinmental
Thanks, Sherry!
I added only children’s books for my future bookstore and for Saturday Mornings for Kids on PWR (http://powerfulwomenreaders.wordpress.com). I did get from a garage sale about 50 cookbooks that were left over and were free, some classics, some specialty ones like low sodium or diabetic ones. I am currently having a Cookbook Giveaway at my Little Free Library in the yard.
That is a great idea!
I really need to get back to that series by Sarina Bowen, I have fallen so behind on it. It looks like you added some good books to your shelves. I hope you have a relaxing fun week!
Happy reading!
I just love Sarina Bowen’s writing!
Oh Carole there’s nothing better than wedding dress shopping with your daughter. I’ll never forget mine.
We’re still having those dreaded fireworks going off near me and my doggie is beside herself. Have a great week
It was fun to see how excited she is about the wedding.
Glad to hear you enjoyed Love Lessons. I love Bowen and I’m looking forward to picking that one up. Good luck dress shopping! My nephew got married last month and me, my mom, and my two sisters bought dresses months ago. But the bride’s mother kept saying she couldn’t find anything. I mean, the wedding date had been set a year ago so it’s not like time was an issue. My side of the family started joking that she would show up in jeans because week after week (and month after month!) passed and she still had nothing. She finally got a dress 3 days before the wedding. It was pretty comical. 🙂
I will probably that person! I was glad to get the wedding dress, bridesmaid dress, and the flower girl dress ordered. I didn’t even bother to look at a dress for myself. I can totally see me waiting until the last minute to find a dress for myself.
I hope dress shopping went well! My cat was afraid of the fireworks too, but thankfully they didn’t last for days and days like some years.
We had a very successful dress shopping trip!
The Bodyguard and Thank you for Listening are on my TBR.
I’ll have a quiet week next week and I can’t WAIT for it to start. Just being around the house, reading, dipping in the pool and all that.
I hope the dress shopping and the dog calming went well! Pool time and lots of reading sounds like perfect priorities for the week!
