#1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb presents the thrilling second novel in her In Death series. When technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there’s only one place to hide a crime of passion—in the heart…

The first victim was found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second was murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provided Eve with a long list of suspects—including her own lover, Roarke. As a woman, Eve was compelled to trust the man who shared her bed. But as a cop, it was her job to follow every lead…to investigate every scandalous rumor…to explore every secret passion, no matter how dark. Or how dangerous.

I really liked this book! I have been wanting to read this series for a long time and must admit that I have been more than a little intimidated by just how big the series. I read the first book in the series not quite two years ago and I am realizing that I need to pick up the pace if I want any chance of catching up with the series before I die of old age so I am ready to start working on it. I am ready to fully embrace this series and was excited to jump into this second book in the series.

Eve is investigating a murder and the victim has a lot of connections to some pretty important people. Before she can solve the crime, she learns that another victim has been found. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was responsible for this string of murders along with Eve. The futuristic setting was fun. I never would have imagined that a detective would need to interview an android during their investigation. I really enjoyed the developments in Eve and Roarke’s relationship.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Susan Ericksen did a fantastic job with the narration of this book. I love the accent that she uses when Roarke is speaking and I think that her voice fits the rest of the characters quite well. She has a very pleasant voice that was easy to listen to for hours at a time. I do believe that her narration added to my overall enjoyment of the book.

I would recommend this book to others. This is the second book in the In Death series but it could be read as a stand-alone. Readers of the series will enjoy watching the character relationships grow and change over the course of the series. I am looking forward to starting the next book in the series very soon.

  1. I picked up the first book in this series at the used bookstore the other week. I know this series goes on forever and even though I’ve been a Nora Roberts reader for ages I’ve never read any of her JD Robb books. I’m glad to see you’re just starting out too and enjoying it!

  2. The narrator for this series is amazing, she really makes the characters come alive. I enjoyed this one! I love Eve and Roarke. This is a good reminder to get back to the series, I haven’t picked up an installment in a while.

    • I thought that the narrator did such a great job with this book. I am glad that I decided to listen to these.
