My Life

I guess that I can say that this was a bad week but it was a bit stressful at times. I took that day off on Monday since my husband and daughter were off but the work week still felt very long. On Monday, we took my dog to the vet and were able to confirm that she has in fact torn both of her ACLs, which are in her back legs in case you are wondering. The vet suggests a 2nd surgery 8 weeks after the first one. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I am going to pay for this.

Then our washing machine decided to stop working properly. We thought about trying to fix it but I have hated this washing machine since I bought it 11 years ago. I hated to take the chance of spending a bunch of money on parts and not being able to fix it anyway. The timing is just really bad since we don’t have the extra money to spend right now. We bought one at our local store and my son-in-law helped my husband get it to the basement (and bring the old one up). It is a bit bigger than my last one so maybe I can spend less time doing laundry.

Just in case anyone is wondering, it is illegal to sell your kidney in the US. I checked.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 5 books this week and the best part is that I really liked everything that I read. I started my week out listening to Just My Type by Falon Ballard and absolutely loved it! Next up was book 2 in the Charley Davidson series – Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones. The Book Spy by Alan Hlad was a nice change of pace. What You Wish For by Katherine Center was just as good as I had hoped it would be. I was shocked by just how much I enjoyed Carrie by Stephen King and ended up listening to it in a single evening while working on a puzzle.

I am currently reading Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie and am loving it. I would have already finished this book if I didn’t have so many adult responsibilities. I have been moving through audiobooks so quickly, I thought that I should grab a longer one so I started listening to Ashley Bell by Dean Koontz and am really enjoying it.

  1. Sorry to hear about the hit your wallet took this week, but I like that you found a silver lining (bigger machine, less time doing laundry) and had a great reading week. How good are Ballard’s books? They both sit on my favorites list. I need her to giddy up and write more

  2. haha you actually checked about kidneys? Thats a bummer, I know you can sell your eggs I think lol But yay for a new washing machine. Hope you enjoy it. I am glad that the Katherine Center worked so well for you!

  3. I’m so sorry for your troubles. While you can’t sell a kidney, you can sell blood. Probably not enough money to really help though. I enjoyed the Katherine Center book you read. I think that was the first one I read and now I try to read them all as they release. I hope the new washing machine is better for you!

Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

    • Honestly, if someone needed my kidney, I would just give it to them. I don’t mind donating blood but couldn’t imagine selling it. Katherine Center is such a fantastic author!

  4. Lol at the kidney comment. Sometimes weeks are just that way. Always one thing after another. Anyway, good luck with the new washer.

  5. So sorry to hear about you doggy acl and laundry machine woes.. it is the worst.
    I love Katherine Center..

  6. Yikes a double surgery decision. We joked when one of our cats was costing us the price of a car, but yeah, its a gut-punch- and a washing machine? Heart palpitations over the finances, LOL

Nice reading week! Hope this week is a good one, Carole!

  7. Dog surgery and a new washing machine in a week! Hard on the wallet. Good to know about the illegal kidney selling. There have been a few times where that’s seem tempting! Have a great week!

    • Well, she hasn’t had the surgery yet. She will have her first one in March and hopefully, we can schedule the second one in May.

  8. I’m sorry to hear about your dog! I hope you’re able to manage with the surgeries. Of course the washing machine goes out too. At least you had a good reading week.

Loved What You Wished For and I’m looking forward to Hello, Stranger. Wishing you a happy week ahead!

  9. Sorry for the rough week. It always seems like things hit at once, doesn’t it? I’m sorry about your dog needing more than one surgery. Poor thing! Have you thought about doing a GoFundMe? I know people often do for medical expenses for pets. I’d happily donate!

    • You’re so sweet! Taking donations isn’t something that I want to do at this point but I appreciate the thought.

  10. I am sorry your dog will need surgery. Vet bills can be outrageous sometimes. I hope the new washing machine works well for you. We had to replace ours a couple years ago. I hope it lasts a long while. I am glad you are enjoying Episode Thirteen. I am looking forward to reading that at some point. Have a great weekend, Carole!
