To win the job of her dreams, a relationship-prone journalist needs to learn how to stay single in this heartwarming and hilarious new romantic comedy from the beloved author of Lease on Love.

Lana Parker is an expert girlfriend. After a disastrous breakup with her high school boyfriend, she's bounced from long-term relationship to long-term relationship and even works as the dating and relationships columnist for one of Los Angeles's trendiest websites. But when Lana suddenly finds herself single, she's ready to take a break, both personally and professionally.

That is, until her high school ex, Seth Carson, takes an assignment at Lana's site. Having spent years traveling the world as a freelance journalist, Seth's finally ready to put down roots. Seth and Lana's chemistry is just as combative—and undeniable—as ever and quickly leads to a competition that could shape both of their careers. Pitted against each other by Lana's boss, they are each tasked with writing an article series that goes against their usual dating type: Lana needs to write about being single and staying single, while Seth must learn to settle down and become boyfriend material. Whoever's series is most popular wins a highly coveted dream job. But when the two square off, it's not only their careers on the line—it’s also their hearts.

I loved this book! Absolutely loved it! It’s been a long time since I picked up a romance that just worked for me on every level as this one did. Lana and Seth were both absolutely fantastic characters and I loved the way they were with each other. I love a good second-chance romance and I definitely feel like Lana and Seth deserved to get a chance to try again. I am so glad that I decided to give this book a try.

Lana is at a low point after the proposal that she thought she was getting turns out to be a breakup. She decides to stop jumping from boyfriend to boyfriend and stay single for a bit. She may write a relationship column but she knows that she needs to work on herself. Imagine her surprise to walk into her office to find her ex-boyfriend from high school. To make matters worse, they are paired up to compete for the one job that they both want.

Lana and Seth had fantastic chemistry and I felt like they really belonged together. They did have a few issues to resolve and I really appreciated the way that things were handled in the story. I hated that their boss had them competing against each other and that the competition was so incredibly personal. I really did feel like they understood each other and I loved watching them grow closer throughout the story.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Tegan Ashton Cohan did a fantastic job with this story. I loved the voices that she used for both the male and female characters. Once I started listening, I was completely captivated by the story and had a hard time setting the book aside. I do believe that her narration added to my enjoyment of this delightful story.

I would recommend this book to others. This book was full of great characters, a lot of laughs, some swoon-worthy moments, and some moments that touched my heart. I will definitely be reading more of this talented author’s work in the future.

I received a review copy of this book from G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Penguin Random House Audio.

Sadie wasn't looking for love until it landed on her doorstep.

After getting passed over for an overdue—and much-needed—promotion, Sadie Green is in desperate need of three things: a stiff drink, a new place to live, and a one-night stand. But when an accidental mix-up lands her on the doorstep of Jack Thomas's gorgeous Brooklyn brownstone, it's too bad Sadie is more attracted to the impressive real estate than she is to the man himself.

Jack, still grieving the unexpected death of his parents, has learned to find comfort in video games and movie marathons instead of friends. So while he doesn’t know just what to make of the vivaciously verbose Sadie, he’s willing to offer her his spare bedroom while she gets back on her feet. And with the rent unbeatably low, Sadie can finally pursue her floristry side hustle full-time. The two are polar opposites, but as Sadie’s presence begins to turn the brownstone into a home, they both start to realize they may have just made the deal of a lifetime.

I really enjoyed this book! After reading Just My Type, I knew that I wanted to read more of this talented author’s work and decided to give her previous novel a try. This ended up being another delightful romance with enough laughs to really keep me glued to my headphones. Sadie and Jack were both great characters and I enjoyed their journey from roommates to becoming a couple.

After being passed over for a promotion for someone less qualified once again, Sadie needs a change. She thinks that she is meeting Jack for a coffee date but it turns out Jack is looking for a roommate instead. The house is perfect and the rent is much more affordable, which is perfect since Sadie has just lost her job. She takes this opportunity to change gears and try to make her dream of running a florist business a reality.

I thought that Sadie and Jack were great together. I liked the fact that things moved rather slowly between them and they developed a friendship before anything else. They have both had some big issues in their past and I liked getting to see them start to open up to each other. I thought that they had great chemistry and I really wanted to see them find their happily ever after. Sadie’s friends were great and I thought that they added a lot to the overall story.

Addison Barnes did a fantastic job with the narration of this audiobook. I loved the voices that she used for the various characters and felt like she really was able to bring this story to life. I thought that she had a very pleasant voice and I had no problems listening to her narration for hours at a time. I do believe that her narration added to my enjoyment of this story.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a very solid romance with just the right amount of added humor. I wasn’t completely sold on the reasons behind the third-act break-up but I really enjoyed the journey overall.

  1. Seriously, how wonderful are Ballard’s books, right? I am such a fan and pleased as punch to see you enjoyed her books as well. Yes! Seth and Lana belonged together, and when the cards were all on the table, I loved this second chance romance even more.

  2. Love how both books worked out great and showed that the author will probably become a favorite the way you connected with her writing.

  3. Nice to hear both of these romances were a hit. Addison Barnes is one of the narrators being considered for Magic Tides by Ilona Andrews. I thought she had a great voice. I’ll check these titles out!
