I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

Shingles is absolutely horrible. I have had a lot of people ask me about the vaccine this week. I have not been vaccinated because I am under 50 and do not have any underlying conditions that would put me at risk for contracting shingles. The vacinne is recommend for people 50+ or anyone who is immunocompromised. I would highly recommend the vaccine to anyone that falls into either of those categories because shingles is incredibly painful. I turn 50 later this year and plan to get vaccinated then. I stayed home from work on Monday and worked partial days the rest of thee week. I am starting to improve but I am not quite back to normal just yet.

In other news, my daughter graduated! My husband, my mother, and I made the 5 hour round trip to see her get her diploma. My older daughter and her husband met us there. We had lunch as a group and took quite a few photos.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I only finished 4 books this week. Missing in Mudbug by Jana Deleon was fun story. I decided to start the month of May with the next book in the Charley Davidson series, Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones. I enjoyed The Stolen Throne by Abigail Owen just as much as the first book in the trilogy. The Last Word by Katy Birchall proved to be a fun enemies to lovers workplace romance.

I just started listening to The Blood Trials by N.E. Davenport but it seems to be off to a good start. I have only read a few pages of Scarlet by Genevieve Cogman but can’t wait to dedicate so time to reading it this week.

Books Added

Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison (Publisher); Witch King by Martha Wells (Publisher); Demons of Good and Evil by Kim Harrison (Publisher)

Jezebel by Megan Barnard (Publisher); Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward (Publisher); Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Publisher)

  1. Congratulations to your daughter! Looks like you had amazing weather to celebrate her special day too. I turned 50 last year and I had chicken pox as a teen. I know I have to get the vaccine. I was busy getting the flu shot and covid shot around my birthday. Only so many shots I can mentally handle at once. Once you have it, can you get shingles again? I hope not.

  2. Sorry to hear you’re still hurting! Shingles sounds awful and I will most likely get that vaccine as soon as the time hits for me. I think my parents keep meaning to get it, but they had hit insurance snafus last time they tried so I don’t know where they are currently at with their quest. Congrats again to your daughter! That’s so amazing!

Nice new reads too! Rachel Harrison’s book sounds incredible! I still need to read the one I got of hers last year! I am currently debating about accepting the offer for Kim’s book! I LOVE her books, but am feeling so overwhelmed with my TBR pile, let alone my review pile, I can’t decide if I want to add to it. We shall see what happens this week I guess!

    Happy Reading!

    Here’s my StS

  3. I’ve heard shingles is awful. So sorry you have to go through that. Congrats to your daughter though!

The Ward book looks like fun. Take care this week! πŸ™‚

  4. I had shingles at the end of February and it’s absolutely awful. I was out of action for at least a week with all the pain and it took about 3 weeks in total to recover. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon. Congratulations to your daughter! That’s always so exciting. I hope you have a great week.

  5. I am so sorry you are suffering through Shingles, Carole. I haven’t been vaccinated yet, but I’ll be eligible later this year–so I appreciate the reminder!

Congratulations to your daughter on her graduation! I accidentally called my daughter’s upcoming promotion a graduation and she was very quick to correct me. Rightfully so, of course! πŸ™‚

I am eager to read Scarlet and hope you enjoy it! Your other books all sound good too. Jezebel is definitely one I hope to read someday.

I hope you have a great week, Carole, and continue to get better!

  6. Congratulations to your daughter! I’m so sorry about shingles. I made my husband get the vaccine as soon as he turned 50 but I’ve got awhile to go before I can get it. It’s so awful. Just as a warning the first shingles vaccine hit him pretty hard and his arm was really sore that night so you may want to schedule it for a Friday or when you have time to feel awful just in case. Have a great week and I hope your books can distract you from the shingles awfulness.

  7. Glad to hear you are on the mend. I was able to get the shingles vaccine last year and am glad I did. My neighbor recently came down with it as well. Congrats to your daughter! What an accomplishment. I am so behind on the Kim Harrison series and it used to be one of my faves. I LOVED Tink. I need to read more urban fantasy as I have always enjoyed it. Hope your puppies are doing ok!

  8. Congrats to your daughter! Glad you were all there to cheer her on. I really need to get my shingles vaccine soon. I’ve meant to do it the last couple years and keep letting it slide.
