I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

I am tired. My day job has been a bit busier than normal and it still takes me forever to do anything in the new software so I just keep falling further and further behind. I will eventually catch up but I don’t know when that will be. I volunteered to work 4 shifts per week at the bookstore until Christmas. I worked Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this past week and my schedule will be the same next week.

My husband and I celebrated our 24th anniversary this past week. We didn’t celebrate beyond acknowledging the day. Maybe next year we’ll try to do something.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 5 books this week. I started the week with Barnes & Noble’s Book of the Year – The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. I didn’t hate it but it won’t be my book of the year. I wanted something different so I picked up Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver and had a fantastic time with it. I liked The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose even more than I liked the first book in the series. I thought that I Want It That Way by Karen Grey was a solid romance. Housebroke by Jaci Burton was really good and I loved that the dogs were a big part of the story.

I didn’t listen to Alone with You in the Ether by Olivie Blake at all this week but I hope to get back to it soon. I wanted to listen to something that I wouldn’t have to review so I picked up Danger Zone by Brooke Blaine and Ella Frank which is a spicy gay Top Gun retelling.

  1. You are on a marathon until Christmas. Be sure to take your vitamins and stay hydrated. Congratulations on 24 years of wedded bliss. A big one next year! I find I am too low-brow for those books of the year. They always tend to be literary fiction which are very much hit or miss (more miss) for me. I am reading The Mystery Guest right now. It’s great to be back in Molly’s world. I was so excited to see a new Guncle book. Can’t wait to hear what you think. The pubs are pushing The Walter Boys? I read that book in 2015…wait, just googled. See it’s being adapted. I guess it makes sense now.

  2. Wow! That sounds like busy times! I hope things settle or get better with the software at your regular job! Congrats on the 24 years with your husband! That’s still awesome!

Nice new reads too! These are some new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. Happy Anniversary! Wow, you are really cooking with the work. Hopefully, you’ll get caught up on that new software soon. Glad you enjoyed some good books this week.

    Have a good week, Carole

  4. Will you have some substantial (more than a day) time off around the holidays! I hope you can get a break and rest up.

Congrats on 24 years. My husband and I celebrated 25 back in August, and didn’t really do much. That said, we are planning a trip to Europe next fall, once both kids are off to school!

  5. Happy 24th anniversary, Carole! Your schedule sounds so tiring! Do you have an end date in mind with Barnes & Noble? I hope you get some down time soon!

Happy to hear you enjoyed The Mystery Guest even more than the first one. I just finished The Maid and really enjoyed the audio! Love Molly! The Five Year Lie looks so good! I’m excited to see what Sarina Bowen does with the mystery/thriller genre!

  6. I heard the author of The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store read from his book and be interviewed in Houston not long ago. It was great!

  7. Wow, I don’t know how you do it all. I would be exhausted. Heck, who am I kidding, I am exhausted. Baby Zeke is wearing me out! I am seeing Butcher and Blackbird everywhere and I admit, I’m really curious about it. May have to seek out a copy.

Hope you have a great week!

  8. I can’t even imagine how busy you are right now! Too bad Barnes and Noble’s book of the year wasn’t yours but glad you enjoyed it. I’m not sure what my book of the year would be. Happy anniversary! I hope you’re having a wonderful week and are managing to get a little time for yourself.
