Maud Demille is a daughter of Innkeepers—a special group who provide ‘lodging’ to other-planetary visitors—so she knows that a simple life isn't in the cards. But even Maud could never have anticipated what Fate would throw at her.

Once a wife to a powerful vampire knight, Maud and her young daughter, Helen, were exiled with him for his treachery to the desolate, savage planet of Karhari. Karhari killed her husband, and Maud—completely abandoned by his family—has spent over a year avenging his debts. Rescued by her sister Dina, she's sworn off all things vampire.

Except... In helping Dina save the world, she met Arland, the Marshal of House Krahr, one of the most powerful vampire houses. One thing led to another and he asked for her hand in marriage. She declined. Arland is not used to hearing the word ‘no;’ and try as she might, Maud can't just walk away from Arland. It doesn't help that being human is a lot harder for Maud than being a vampire.

To sort it all out, she accepts his invitation to visit his home planet. House Krahr is extremely influential and Maud knows that a woman—a human, with a very questionable past—who's turned down a proposal from its most beloved son won't get a warm reception. Maybe she’s not sure about marrying Arland, but House Krahr isn’t going to decide for her. Maud Demille has never run from a fight, and House Krahr will soon discover that there's a lot more to Maud than they’re expecting.

Why did I add Sweep of the Blade to my bookshelf?

Why do I do this? I love Ilona Andrews and liked the first 3 books in the series enough that I know that I have read at least one of them more than once. But I stopped after the third book! I own all 6 of the books in at least one format so I really have no excuse. Maybe 2024 will the year that I finally get caught up with some of these series that I have bought over the years.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it?

  1. For some reason I couldn’t get into this author despite trying. They’ve written a lot that’s for sure! I don’t think I even heard of this particular series! I hope you’re able to get caught up with it next year! There is a Series Enders Reading Challenge I participate in every year to help get myself caught up/finished with completed series!

Hope you get to read this one soon!

  2. I’ve only read the first three books of Ilona Andrew’s Hidden Legacy series, and I loved them, but I’m not sure I’ll read the rest of the series either. I tend to not finish longer running series if they switch main characters and have a completely new storyline because I feel like I have to reset, so I get why you’d stop after the third book. I guess I could look at it as a new series though if I wanted to continue reading them. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series if you decide to read them!

  3. These are awesome I will be tackling the Edge and the Innkeeper books in 2025 if you are willing to wait for the Read-along. You seem to get to my picks a year ahead although I’ve pushed off Jim Butcher now since it is so long I’m not sure people will stay with it.
