Happy New Year!
Now that we have flipped the calendar to 2024, it is the perfect time to make a few plans for the upcoming year. My goals for 2024 are basically the same as they were in 2023. I did great with some goals last year, but I still need to work on some other areas.
The Blog
The blog just turned 9 a couple of weeks ago and a lot has changed over the years. But I think that I have found what works for me and what doesn’t. There may be some small changes in the upcoming year but I am really happy to continue as I have been. One area that I would like to improve on is being more consistent with visiting other blogs and commenting.
Books and Reading
The goals that I made last year were actually a big help and I hope that this year will be similar. I have been working on a few of these goals for a while so they may look similar to you if you have been following me for a while.
- Read at least 6 books that are past due on NetGalley – I didn’t do such a great job with this goal in 2023. I only read one of my past-due books on my NetGalley list. I really want to get all of those old ARCs knocked out in 2024 if possible but I at least want to make a bigger dent in the pile in 2024 than I did in 2023.
- Stay current with 2024 ARCs – I left more 2023 ARS on my shelf last year than I would like to admit. There are 3 books published in 2023 that are still on my NetGalley shelf and 14 from 2023 on my Edelweiss shelf. I am not sure how many print books I just didn’t get to but obviously, there is some room for improvement in this area.
- Read my past-due books from publishers – I did not do a great job with this one in 2023. I did tackle a few of the older print ARCs early in the year but I didn’t stay focused like I had hoped that I would. Hopefully, I can get to more of these older books in 2024.
- Read from my own shelves – I have been doing better with this but I still own a lot of unread books. My goal in 2023 was to read a Stephen King book, a book from the Charley Davidson series, and a J.D. Robb book every month. I was able to finish the Charley Davidson series, read 9 of Stephen King’s books, and 9 books in the J.D. Robb series. This year I hope to read a book from the J.D. Robb series, one of Stephen King’s books, and a book from the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep every month.
- Read books that I don’t review – I generally review every book that I read but I don’t think that I can keep that up. I will still review most books that I read but I am also going to incorporate books in my schedule that will not be officially reviewed.
2024 Challenges
I know that a lot of people love challenges but I don’t need anything else to keep track of in my life so I will be once again excusing myself for joining in on any challenges. The only exception that I plan to make is the Goodreads challenge which I plan to set at 100 books once again this year.
Bookstagram
I am probably not going to change too much on Bookstagram. I would love to post every day but it just isn’t always possible. I do enjoy taking photos and seeing just how creative other people are. The platform is really pushing reels so I am going to try to incorporate them into my page a little more next year. It is a fun community and I can do most of it on my phone during short breaks during my workday. I would, of course, love more followers but it is what it is.
Books I cannot wait to read in 2024!
What are some of your blogging or reading goals for 2024?
Like you, I need to tackle past due books on Netgalley and also reading more from my own shelves.
Great goals, Carole. My blogging definitely changed in the last year or so, in that I blog if/when I can and don’t sweat it. lol I used to feel pressure to post a certain number of times a week but I’ve let go of any and all expectations there. And I’ve taken a giant step away from arcs. I found I was skipping what I really wanted to be reading, plus I didn’t like reading on a timeline. I hope you have great success with your goals this year!
Great goals that totally make sense. I love your top picks for 2024 also.
Good luck for everything! Happy New Year!
Good luck with all your goals and I hope you enjoy all the books that come your way. Happy New Year!
I’m not signing up for any reading challenges this year either! And I wish you luck on all of your other goals. Here’s hoping 2024 is a wonderful year for you. 😀
Happy New Year! Best wishes for a successful and enjoyable reading year! I’m looking forward to new Mercy and Veronica, as well. I listen to both of those series. I also posted my goals today. I used to avoid challenges, but I found they help me organize my reading and sometimes force me to go outside my comfort zone.
I am surprised you have that many past due ARCs. You seem to read a lot of them. It’s pretty freeing reading a non-review book. I can just jot down some thoughts or write a full-on review if I want to, NOT because I have to. I will always be looking forward to an Emily Henry book. Big fan since The Love That Split the World.
I was surprised how many of my TBR books I got to this past year. It meant I neglected some of the review books I meant to read though, so I need to work on a better balance for this year. Good luck with your goals this year!
Happy New Year! I stay away from reading challenges too. Looking forward to Funny Story also 🙂
Good luck with all your goals in 2024! It always is nice to read a book that you don’t have to worry about reviewing!
Your bookstagrams are amazing
