From New York Times bestseller Elle Cosimano comes Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice—the fiercely anticipated next installment in the beloved Finlay Donovan series.
"Finlay Donovan is irresistible!"—Janet Evanovich
Finlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero are in sore need of a girls’ weekend away. They plan a trip to Atlantic City, but odds are—seeing as it’s actually a cover story to negotiate a deal with a dangerous loan shark, save Vero’s childhood crush Javi, and hunt down a stolen car—it won’t be all fun and games. When Finlay’s ex-husband Steven and her mother insist on tagging along too, Finlay and Vero suddenly have a few too many meddlesome passengers along for the ride.Within hours of arriving in their seedy casino hotel, it becomes clear their rescue mission is going to be a bust. Javi’s kidnapper, Marco, refuses to negotiate, demanding payment in full in exchange for Javi’s life. But that’s not all—he insists on knowing the whereabouts of his missing nephew, Ike, who mysteriously disappeared. Unable to confess what really happened to Ike, Finlay and Vero are forced to come up with a new plan: sleuth out the location of Javi and the Aston Martin, then steal them both back.
But when they sneak into the loan shark’s suite to search for clues, they find more than they bargained for—Marco's already dead. They don’t have a clue who murdered him, only that they themselves have a very convincing motive. Then four members of the police department unexpectedly show up in town, also looking for Ike—and after Finlay's night with hot cop Nick at the police academy, he’s a little too eager to keep her close to his side.
If Finlay can juggle a jealous ex-husband, two precocious kids, her mother’s marital issues, a decomposing loan shark, and find Vero’s missing boyfriend, she might get out of Atlantic City in one piece. But will she fold under the pressure and come clean about the things she’s done, or be forced to double down?
This was fun, just like I expected it to be. Finlay and Vero are in trouble again. They need to get to Atlantic City to save Vero’s friend and work something out with the loan shark after Vero. As soon as the whole family decided to join in on the road trip, I knew things would get interesting. Yes, the book was over-the-top silly at times but it was a whole lot of fun.
Finlay and Vero decide to go on a road trip so what could go wrong, except everything? They end up traveling with the entire family in tow, including Finlay’s ex-husband and mother. It doesn’t take long for these two ladies to find themselves in a whole heap of trouble. When Finlay’s cop boyfriend shows up, I wonder how they would keep things together. This book had all of the humor that I have come to expect from the series, along with a fair bit of action, and a mystery that kept me guessing.
I would recommend this book to others. I would recommend that this series be read in order since the events of the previous books lay the groundwork for this installment. I did feel like this would be a natural place to stop the series since many of the plot threads from previous books were wrapped up nicely in this installment, but if the author decides to continue the series, I wouldn’t hesitate to read more of Finlay Donovan’s adventures.
I received a review copy of this book from Minotaur Books.
Glad to see the series continues to deliver. And maybe there is still more to come.
I might like these. I can’t decide. If they are too close to Stephanie Plum books well I eventually found them too ridiculous to continue.
I really need to try these!
I really like Finaly Donovan…but I still need to read the second and third book in this series. How do I always fall so far behind? ;D
I am really looking forward to reading this one! Hopefully this month along with a couple other series books by authors who I have come to love. I am glad you enjoyed Elle Cosimano’s latest, Carole!
I can’t wait to read or better, listen to that one!
I really want to start this series. The premise sounds really fun and I’m glad to see you’re still enjoying the series.
