Weekly Wrap Up #423

I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

A lot has happened since my last Sunday post. We had a wonderful vacation. We enjoyed exploring the island and just had a lot of fun. It was really hard to come back. Our return flight left Hawaii at 10:00 pm Hawaii time. I couldn’t sleep on the plane so traveling home was kind of tough. The day after we got home we attended a birthday party for my brother-in-law. We went to my mom’s to visit with her later that same day.

Our younger daughter, who lives in Ohio, stayed at our house during our trip to watch the dogs so we tried to spend as much time with her as we could before she went back home. My older daughter shared the news that she is moving to Chicago with her husband next week.

Going back to work after being on vacation for two weeks was hard. It was a little more challenging because I started a new schedule which will allow me to have Fridays off for my new library job. I started my library position on Friday and I think that I am really going to like it. My schedule will be Friday and Saturday. I will not work past 5:00 pm at either of my jobs so I think that this schedule will be very doable.

Next week should be another busy one. My husband is going with my daughter and her husband to help them get moved in on Thursday. He’ll fly home on Friday. It will be weird having both of my children living so far away.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 3 books in the past 3 weeks. On the plane to Hawaii, I paired the audio and the digital book of A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher which made the time pass a little more quickly. I started Run by Blake Crouch towards the end of the flight and finished it on our return trip. I thought it was an interesting apocalyptic story. I enjoyed A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston which was a really imaginative romance.

I read about 50 pages of Fire and Bones by Kathy Reichs on the plane to Hawaii. I would have loved to read more but I had difficulty keeping my eyes open. I decided to pick up Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Haehrer on its publication date and started reading right away. I haven’t had a lot of reading time this week but hope to make a serious dent in this book today. I started listening to The Haunting of Hecate Cavendish by Paula Brackston and was enjoying it but I need to start over next week because I think I have let my mind wander a little too much while listening to this one.

Books Added

Better Than Friends by Jill Shalvis (Publisher); Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer (Publisher)

  1. Glad you had a good trip! Loved seeing your pics on Instagram and these are amazing too! Hope your library job turns out to be fun! Sadly my Maureen Johnson event was canceled and has yet to be rescheduled like a few of her other stops so I still haven’t been to our new library yet! Hoping that we get a reschedule date and not some virtual stop. Fingers crossed!

Nice new reads! These are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. Oh I’m so glad you had the vacation in such a beautiful place. Somehow I thought the library job was full-time. So 4 days at one job and 2 at the library? I guess if you are done by 5 all the days that is something.

    • No, it’s part-time. I am thrilled to get my foot in the door and hope to move to a full-time role after my daughter ages off my health insurance in 2 years. It can be very hard to be hired full-time at the library for this position. The benefits at the library are fantastic but it is very expensive to add dependants (which I know since my husband is full-time). Honestly, working 6 days a week while being off every evening is a whole lot easier than working a single job with kids at home.

  3. Hawaii is the best! I’m so glad you were able to go and enjoy. Though that flight back is a tough one. I can never sleep on a plane, so I always come home super tired. But vacations are worth it. And good luck with your new library job. I hope it goes really well!

    • It is so beautiful there! I had hoped to sleep but I was next to the window and the side of the plane was freezing. I am definitely too old to stay up all night anymore. The library job is going well so far!

  4. I am so happy to hear you had a great (and well earned) vacation. Jet lag is no joke especially if you have obligations the very next day. It’s so hard when our children leave. Now we both will have kids in Chicago. Maybe we will bump into each other. I do hope the move goes well. The work situation sounds a little better than the last one. Not have to work at two jobs on the same day already makes it a plus. That’s great that you could work it out with your full time job to get Friday’s off. I wish you so much luck with your new position!

  5. Your Hawaii trip looked amazing and I’m so glad you had a good time! This schedule sounds much more manageable and I’m a little jealous of the library job! I hope you share some details on what it’s like to work in a library. I got Apprentice to the Villian and am so excited to start it. I loved the first book. I’ hope you’re having a great week!

  6. Congrats on your new job; I hope you enjoy it! I’m also working at the local library too as of July – we might actually bump into each other some day. I’m glad you had a fantastic vacation – I love the photos you’ve taken.
