Blood-soaked, heart-wrenching, grim and glorious.”—Rachel Harrison, national bestselling author of Black Sheep
From CJ Leede, the author of Maeve Fly, comes a scorching new apocalyptic novel. American Gods meets The Last of Us in this epic and sweeping story about the end of the world as we know it.
A virus is spreading across America, transforming the infected and making them feral with lust.
Sophie, a good Catholic girl, must traverse the hellscape of the midwest to try to find her family while the world around her burns. Along the way she discovers there are far worse fates than dying a virgin…
The end times are coming.
This was good! I loved C.J. Leede’s debut novel, Maeve Fly, so I was excited to read her sophomore effort and I am happy to report that it did not disappoint. This story is set in a world falling apart after a virus has spread across the country making people feral with lust. Sophie is a sheltered 16-year-old from a good Catholic family. She is determined to find her twin brother when everything turns into a dumpster fire.
Sophie is not prepared for the world outside her home. Because of her religious upbringing, she doesn’t know much about many things, which puts her at a huge disadvantage when staying alive can be a challenge. The characters in this book were able to come alive on the page. Sophie became a part of a group of people (and a dog) who I really liked. I enjoyed watching the group work together to achieve their goals. The book is set in a pretty dire world full of sex and violence so it was nice to have something to root for.
Moniqua Plante did a fantastic job with the narration of this book. The story is told from Sophie’s point of view and I thought that she was able to bring her character to life through her reading. I liked the various voices that she used for the cast of characters. I believe that this was my first experience listening to her narration work and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up more books she narrates. I am certain that her performance added to my overall enjoyment of this book.
I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be one of those books that was hard to put down. I liked Sophie a lot and wanted to see things work out for her. I am eagerly awaiting the next book from this incredibly talented author.

I like that it sounds unique.
Feral with lust seems very rapey
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It sounds like a good one.
That is quite the combination of comparisons in the blurb! This looks interesting and very different. I’ll have to give this a try.
