Weekly Wrap Up #439

I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

I feel like there has been a lot going on lately. First of all, my husband and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary today. We celebrated earlier this year with our trip to Hawaii but I think it is still a significant milestone to note.

I worked my final shift at my old job this week. I will be working for the company part-time from home but my days of having to deal with a commute to sit at a desk all day are over. I took home 2 computers, 3 monitors, a printer, plus a bunch of files and office supplies. We have everything set up in one of our spare rooms. Everything seemed great but the computer kept shutting off between sessions. We checked the power strip and decided the outlet might have gone bad before realizing the light switch controls that outlet.

I was off yesterday (Saturday) so my husband and I did some running around. We went to the local high school’s craft fair, then stopped by a couple of craft stores, and a thrift store. I decided to visit the bookstore I used to work at and they were swamped. I am so glad I wasn’t stuck working a register and could just shop. We stocked up on a few items before heading home. After walking the dogs, we made one last trip to visit my mom.

I start my full-time position at the library on Monday and am excited about the change. I will only have to work 10 Saturdays for the entire year which is so much better than what I am used to. The job can be pretty active and staff move from post to post every hour which I really like. I shouldn’t be stuck doing the same thing all day again.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished three books this week which is pretty good for the amount of stuff I had going on. I finished The Last One by Rachel Howzell Hall early on Sunday and enjoyed it quite a lot. The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch was a fun holiday romance. I was happy with how Chasing Eternity by Alyson Noel wrapped up the Stealing Infinity trilogy.

I am about 20% of the way through Nemesis by Anna Banks and am kicking myself for waiting so long to read this book because it is really good. I have hit the 66% mark on Under Loch & Key by Lana Ferguson and think the narration has been amazing.

Books Added

Only in Your Dreams by Ellie K. Wilde (Publisher); The Ghostwriter by Julie Clark (Publisher); Fable for the End of the World by Ava Reid (Publisher)

The Lamb by Lucy Rose (Publisher); Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney (Publisher); The Queens of Crime by Marie Benedict (Publisher)

  1. I wish you the best and smoothest start with your job tomorrow, and I won’t lie, I giggled about the light switch thing. We have those since the builders were too cheap to put in overhead lights (hate it!). I read Nemesis years ago but never read the second book. Loch and Key was great! Probably one of my faves from Ferguson.

    • Our house had overhead lights added later. In most cases, the wiring has been changed so that the outlets work independently from the switches but we found this room is an exception.

  2. Ooh nice! Yay for the new job! That’s exciting! I was just at the library again for the Teen Book event! Mainly went to see Alexandra Bracken as she had to cancel last year. It was pretty insane with lots of readers, but things moved smoothly enough. Still haven’t gone upstairs yet to check out that space. Ought to do that next time I’m there. Lol.

Nice new reads! Some new to me ones here! I did read Nemesis some years ago and loved it! Sad that Anna doesn’t write anymore as I did enjoy her books. I hope you enjoy all of your lovely new reads!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    • I thought about going to the Teen Book Festival but decided that I would be spending enough time at the library next week and wanted to be somewhere else for the weekend.

  3. I’m so glad you will be starting the new job and hope everything goes smoothly. How many hours a week do you have planned for the old job with setting aside a room for that? It’s exciting that you have Saturday and Sunday off for many weeks!

Anne – Books of My Heart   This is my Sunday Post

    • I plan to look at work for a bit in the mornings, check email at lunchtime, and maybe do just a bit in the evenings. I will try to catch up more on the weekends. I am thinking 15-20 hrs depending on how busy everything is. I still have a lot of bookshelves and other things in the room but we decided it was the best place to hold the extra computer equipment since our basement is a disaster from the flooding.

  4. Happy Anniversary and congrats on your job changes and welcome to the WFH community. Too funny about discovering the light switch controls the outlet. At least you figured it out before an electrician was summoned to fix your outlet, which is what happened to me. Luckily he was called out for other electrical issues so his trip wasn’t wasted.

    • My husband and I spent way too much time trying to figure out what was going on with that switch. It was obvious after I realized what the problem actually was.

  5. Hsppy 25!

Oh the light switch thing! We have these that turns of after a while at work and when they did the washing machine went off too. Sigh

  6. I’m so excited to see that you are starting the library job full time and hope you’ve had a smooth start. The work from home second job sounds much better. Things aren’t quite as stressful when there’s no commute and you can stay in comfy clothes. You’ve got some great books and I hope you’re having a great week!
