Weekly Wrap Up #442

Posted January 5, 2025 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 8 Comments

I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

I somehow forgot to post last week! I hope that everyone had a fantastic Christmas and New Year! My oldest daughter and her husband visited for the holiday a few weeks ago. My youngest daughter and her brand-new fiance were here for Christmas Eve. They announced their engagement just days before the holiday and plan on a 2026 wedding.

I had a follow-up appointment with the retina specialist and the repair of the retinal tear seems to be good. I am seeing much more clearly which is a huge relief. I still see some weird flashing lights and other interesting things but the world is no longer hazy. I am still not supposed to read. The doctor said that the back-and-forth motion we make while reading would be bad for my eyes right now, so I guess I will need to stick to audiobooks for a while longer. I go back to the doctor in a couple of weeks and am crossing my fingers that I will be given the green light to read again. In the meantime, I have spent time crocheting and doing other things that don’t require back-and-forth eye motion.

I am really enjoying the library position, especially now that I can see things a lot better. I spent New Year’s Day getting caught up with my old job that I am doing part-time from home. I have quite a few reviews to write so I might start posting again next week as my eyes allow.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished two audiobooks in two weeks. Obviously, things have been slow with regard to reading. I had a lot of fun with The Corpse in the Closet by Lucy Score and look forward to picking up the next book in the series very soon. I have had The Restorer by Amanda Stevens on my tbr forever and I am so glad that I finally decided to give it a try. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!

I am still at 40% in Nemesis by Anna Banks and it looks like it will stay that way for a while. I am getting close to finishing The Rebel by T.J. London and am enjoying it just as much as her previous novels.

Books Added

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix (Publisher); Head Cases by John McMahon(Publisher); Something in the Walls by Daisy Pearce (Publisher)

  1. Glad your eyes are doing better! Fingers crossed that you can read again soon! That would drive me crazy. As it is, I caught the family cold and have been sick since New Year’s Day and haven’t read in the 4 days of the new year and it’s killing me! Hopefully after some cold medicine today I might be able to read something. Fingers crossed. Lol. Glad you had a nice holiday and congrats to your daughter on her engagement! That’s exciting!

Nice new reads! These are new to me ones. Although I did see Grady Hendrix was coming to St. Louis this year. Did you catch that one? I think he’s going to the Novel Neighbor…or they’re the host. It might be at a bigger location.

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. Congratulations to you daughter and her fiancé. How exciting! I’m so glad that your eyes are doing better and that’s interesting about the motion. That would never have occurred to me .
