Stacking the Shelves #14

Posted April 2, 2016 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 38 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews
After going crazy adding books last week, I used a little bit of restraint this week.  All but one of the print books listed this week were actually purchases made last week so I even did a little better than it looks.  I was back at work all week which was tiring after being off for part of last week.  I am taking some more time off in a couple of weeks and can’t wait.

Bound No More by Faith Hunter (Audible Freebie)

When I saw that this was free on Audible, I couldn’t click fast enough.  This is a series that I hope to read at some point.  I am not sure if I will wait to read the series to listen to this one or not.

Digital Books
Break Out by Nina Croft (Kindle Freebie)
June by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore (First to Read)
She Poured Our Her Heart by Jean Thompson (First to Read)
Admiral by Sean Danker (First to Read)

I grabbed one freebie from Amazon this week which is sort of a record for me.  I usually have 5 or 6 that I add every week so maybe I am getting a bit more selective but it is probably just a fluke.  I have such a hard time resisting the books on offer at First to Read but I am happy with the 3 books that I added from that site this week.

Print Books

Do Not Forsake Me by Rosanne Bittner (Paperback Swap)
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke (Author Event Purchase)
Between the Spark and the Burn by April Genevieve Tucholke (Author Event Purchase)
Dove Arising by Karen Bao (Author Event Purchase)
Dove Exiled by Karen Bao (Author Event Purchase)

I actually only added one print book this week.  I was thrilled to get my copy of Do Not Forsake Me in the mail this week.  I have seen wonderful reviews for this book and can’t wait to read it.  The April Genevieve Tucholke and Karen Bao books were actually purchased last Friday at an author event.  I wasn’t going to have those two authors sign anything for me but my daughter said that she thought the books sounded good so I went ahead an bought them.  I should have my post about the event with lots of photos posted sometime this weekend.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. I had to start getting more selective about the freebies that I download as I was grabbing anything with a vampire, werewolf, zombie, horror theme and so on! Now I take a quick look at the Goodreads reviews to get an idea if it is my kind of story before I download! Hope you enjoy your book grabs!

  2. Nice haul. I plan on reading stuff from April Genevieve Tucholke soon. I saw her at an author event and liked her. Have a good reading week.

  3. I really need to play around more with First Reads. I have an account but have literally done nothing with it. I'm really curious about June. It looks great! Enjoy your new books!

    • I think that I got really lucky with First to Read because the day I signed up was the same day that books went on offer. I stop by the site every day just to check for something new. I thought June looked pretty good so I picked it right away out of the choices.

  4. Hi Carole, did you attend the Penguin Teen Author's tour? It was near where I live on Friday, but I couldn't make it over there. Very Bummed! I felt as I only really have read two of the authors, I wouldn't get much out of it. I wish these events were on the weekend so it would be easier to go to. Have a wonderful week of reading.

    • I did go to the Penguin Teen Author's tour. I went to the one in my area on Good Friday so it worked well for me. I plan to post photos from the event tomorrow. I would probably go to more author events in my area but I am sometimes tied up with other commitments that I really can't get out of easily. They are a lot of fun!

  5. Hey there Carole! I can't believe we didn't run into each other at the Penguin Teen event! I just saw you followed me on Twitter, and I pretty much always click the follow back button! LOL! Then I found your blog and thought oh goodie! Someone who lives nearby and reads some of the same things I do!! Looking forward to reading your posts in the future! And seeing you at other events too!

I plan to go to the Sarah Jude one at the same library in May and naturally the Fierce Reads event…though that's downtown and will be quite a drive but I plan to do it anyways most likely! LOL!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    NEW Follower 😀

    • It is such a small world. I am definitely planning on going to those events and Maggie Stiefvater, John Corey Whaley plus probably more. There have been so many wonderful events lately. I would love to say hi to you the next time we are both at one of these events. I love meeting local book lovers! Thanks for stopping by!

  6. So many people are picking up Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea this week, and I am SO jealous! I guess this means I should officially jump on the bandwagon soon, huh? Here's hoping you enjoy your recent acquisitions!

    Here is my StS

    • I bought that book largely because I have a hard time saying no to my daughter when it comes to book buying. She thought it sounded good and the author was there to sign it. I am not really sure when I will work it into my reading schedule.

  7. One of my guilty pleasures is historical romances. I'm going tot have to check out Do Not Forsake Me. Looks intriguing! Have a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by Tynga's Reviews.

  8. I'll have to see if Bound No More is still free. I plan to read that series too. Yay for having more restraint this week, though. 😀

  9. I love Tucholke's books! Between the Devil was one of my favorite books of 2013. Between the Spark was quite good too, and Wink Poppy Midnight. 😀 I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

    Have a lovely weekend. 🙂

    • I am probably in the minority but I didn't care for Wink Poppy Midnight at all. I am a little fearful of the two Tucholke books that I did pick up but chances are that either me or my daughter will like them.

  10. I grabbed the Nina Croft freebie, too. And yay, Do Not Forsake Me is a favorite. 🙂

I've wanted to try the Between the Devil series. Look forward to your thoughts. So cool that you went to an event.

    • I love going to author events! They are almost always so much fun to listen to. Authors are story tellers and it almost always comes across as they speak. I am lucky enough to live in an area that gets a lot of author visits.

  11. I was at the thrift store a few hours ago, but thankfully, I resisted buying anything. I was looking for some Laura Griffin book, but there wasn't anything. i was even going to settle for some historical fiction, but i didn't have the mood to browse too long. Lol.

    I call that a success. 🙂

    Happy reading!

  12. I didn't know you bought both of Karen Bao's books. I only got the first one because I'm cheap and I like matching paperback or hardbacks, no combinations of the two if I can help it.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the series though, when/if you get to it. I have a feeling you'll get to it before I will. 😉
