Stacking the Shelves #74

Posted June 17, 2017 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 23 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality
This was a busier week for us.  I had an ocular migraine come on very suddenly Tuesday morning before work and I didn’t feel quite right all day long.  We had tickets to a Cardinals baseball game on Wednesday night.  We left early since a storm was heading straight for the stadium but it was incredibly hot and slightly miserable while we were there.  My daughter had another audition on her trombone.  She didn’t get the spot but it was a good experience for her.  We are still waiting to learn if she got the spot with the jazz band.  We are busy getting ready to send her to band camp next week.  We will spend about 9 or 10 hours in the car round trip to get her to camp on Sunday.

I got really behind on commenting and visiting blogs because of my migraine and the busier than usual week.  I will not have access to a computer all day Sunday so please be patient while I work to get caught up.

Digital Books

The Last Outlaw by Rosanne Bittner (NetGalley)
Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan (NetGalley)

I have heard wonderful things about Rosanne Bittner’s Outlaw Hearts series.  I have them all ready for a planned read this summer so I am thrilled to get the chance to add the newest one to my tbr list.  I grabbed Anatomy of a Scandal when I saw that it was a read now on NetGalley because it really sounds like my kind of book.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. It sounds like you had a bit of a tough week Carole. I hope this one turns out better for you. I had a pile of housework to do. Why does it seem never ending??? This week was a good mixture of books-UF, dinosaurs, politics, thrillers, apocalypse and horror!

  2. Yeah I am definitely not liking our weather lately! Sooo hot!! And it doesn't look like it's going to get cooler any time soon. It's officially summer for us. Ugh.

Sorry to hear about your migraine and that your daughter get the spot in the band. That's a bummer. Definitely sounds like a long road trip, but hopefully she'll have a lot of fun!

Nice new reads too! Totally new to me ones. Hope you enjoy them!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  3. So sorry about the migraine. It's impossible to function when those decide to show up. Fingers crossed on jazz band! Hope she has a good time at band camp and you have a nice time as well. Have a great week!

  4. Ugh migraines suck! I got them 1.5 years ago, but I think mine were mostly cos of my shoulders cos started to go to a masseuse once a month and that helped. So more like headache migraine from shoulder ache then

  5. What a long trip for band camp. I hated band camp. In fact, I almost quit. I hated the heat and the special treatment the manifested got. Hope your headaches stay away for a while and you get a chance to enjoy your books.

  6. Yes, you did have quite the week and tomorrow will be a long one, too. You guys are such great parents. No worries on the commenting. I get migraines now and then, too, and they really tend to put life on hold.

Yay, I got The Last Outlaw and I hope you get the chance to enjoy all the books leading up to it.

Wishing you safe travels and a good week, Carole!

  7. Sorry about the migraine. It seems that despite the migraine you had a busy but great week. Enjoy these books and don't worry about blogging when you're busy. We'll be always here. Enjoy your travels. 🙂

  8. First time hearing about these, but they definitely sound cool.
Wishing you a lovely week 🙂
    Here is my STS

  9. Oh no, sorry to hear about your migraine, hopefully this week will be much better for you. Sending good thoughts to your daughter, hopefully jazz works out for her. Enjoy the road trip and your new reads this week.

  10. Oh nice haul! Sorry about the migraine and hope your daughter is doing well, definitely sounds like a good experience! Also hope you're enjoying your current read, Lost and Found Sisters! I am gonna read it once it releases!

Ouch! I get migraines, though the number of them is drastically cut after going through "the change". I also get/got the ocular kind which are truly horrible. I have a few female relatives who also get these, so maybe hereditary? Anyhow, I hope you have bounced back by now and am ready to read again.

Hope band camp is fun for your daughter! What a lovely experience for her.

I am interested in Jill Shalvis' Lost and Found Sisters. Glad you enjoyed it.

  12. Sounds like you had a bit of a long week, migraines are definitely the worst! Oh I really need to check out Outlaw Hearts, it sounds awesome! Happy reading!

  13. Carole, I definitely feel your pain. I ended up with an ocular mgraine yesterday on Father's Day. I had all of these grand plans for surprising my husband… I was going to make him breakfast in bed and clean and vacuum out his car but I didn't get to do any of that. I had the ocular migraine first thing that morning and then when it faded I was completely drained and ended up with a regular migraine. Yuck! Sounds like you had a really busy week too! Hope you are feeling better now.

  14. I hope your migraine is all better by now! It's never any fun to be feeling ill, and although a baseball game sounds fun, some things can be hard to enjoy outdoors in this heat!
