Stacking the Shelves #163

Posted March 23, 2019 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 20 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
What a week!  You may remember that I had some good news last week that I wasn’t able to share.  The news was that my daughter was offered a second full ride scholarship.  That means that two different colleges have offered full tuition plus room & board.  My daughter has put in the work and it is really nice to see it pay off.   I think that the most exciting news that I have this week is that my daughter has made a decision regarding where she wants to go to college.  After so many trips to visit schools and interview for scholarships, I am so happy that a decision has been made and I think it will be a really good fit for her.

We had a pretty busy week.  I had my mom over on Sunday for corned beef and cabbage.  On Monday, my husband, daughter, and I went on one last college visit.  My daughter got all of her questions answered and decided that it was definitely where she wanted to go.  Unfortunately, I had a headache most of the day which carried over into Tuesday.  I just didn’t feel like doing anything on Tuesday so I didn’t.  I let the blog go quiet on Wednesday and have been terrible with commenting.  I promise to try to do better moving forward.

Books Added

The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves (Publisher)
Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark (Publisher)
The Missing Years by Lexie Elliott (Publisher)
This Book Is Not Yet Rated by Peter Bognanni (Publisher)
One Little Secret by Cate Holahan (Publisher)
The Last Book Party by Karen Dukess (Publisher)
It’s Getting Scot in Here by Suzanne Enoch (Won @ Books of My Heart)
Outpost by W. Michael Gear (Publisher)

I am really excited about all of these books and really enjoyed all of the packages.  I do wonder about one book though.  Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered is a partial ARC and to be honest, I am not even sure what to do with it.  I can’t really review a partial book so I am confused.  Am I missing something?

Wild Country by Anne Bishop (Audible Purchase)
The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood (NetGalley)

It takes me a very long time to read Anne Bishop’s books so I decided to grab the audio and go that route with Wild Country.  I am one of the few people that didn’t love All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood but I still want to try her upcoming novel, The Reckless Oath We Made.

  1. Congratulations for her having two offers and deciding where she wants to go! That must be so exciting and wonderful for her — and you too! I hope you enjoyed having your mother over for dinner and those new books look lovely too. Have a good weekend and week ahead x

  2. I won't say congrats! but I will say that it's great that she knows what she wants, and now that her path towards being a uni nerd is coming true, you can now redeem your well earned rest

  3. It must be a relief for you that your daughter has sorted out her college plans and well done to her-she's getting all the rewards for her hard work!

  4. That's awesome that she had another full ride scholarship offer! And yay that she made a choice! I know how worrisome that can be! Congrats all around!

Yay for new reads too! Those are all new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  5. Way to go kiddo and congrats to mom and dad, too. Good that she has that decision out of the way. Bummer about your headache.
Whew! What a stack of books there. You'll have fun with those. I don't think I'd bother to review a partial arc. The best I could do would be a first impressions post or something like that.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  6. Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark noooo why.. why would they do that? I hate when they give you sneak peaks. Are you suppose to mail them and tell them yes I want the full book? Because its Kilgariff and Hardstark I want it 😀 I love their podcast

  7. Congratulations to your daughter and to you! How wonderful! Sorry to hear about your headache but glad you took the time you needed. Hope you're feeling better and have a wonderful week!

  8. That is so great for your daughter. I hope she loves it. It looks like a nice smallish town.

I hope you are feeling better. You can only do what you can and sometimes you just need a break. Anne – Books of My Heart

  9. I am shedding tears of joy for your daughter. What wonderful news! My daughter required multiple visits before she decided on Syracuse. I think it's great that your child took the decision so seriously and I hope she is nothing by happy and successful there. Wait! You got stuff with the books? I have only ever gotten one box, and that was pretty epic, even if I didn't read the physical book (I read an eARC).

  10. Congrats to your daughter and I bet you guys are over the moon! She's so lovely in that picture. So what the heck is a partial arc and why even bother. Seems to me to be a ploy to rope people in to buying the book but that's just a thought. I hope you love Outpost – go read it now, I'll wait 🙂 Hope you have a great week and tell you daughter she rocks!

  11. Congrats to your daughter- both on the second free ride offer and on her decision! Big times for you guys! 🙂 All the hard work pays off…

    Wild Country looks amazing.

  12. Congrats for your daughter! I'm sure it's a huge relief to have the decision made up.

I've been having a horrible headache for the last week too and I haven't had problems with allergies in the past so I didn't consider all the blooms. Maybe that's what's happening with me.

Half an ARC? That's weird. Hope you enjoy Wild Country! 🙂

  13. I am glad your daughter has made a decision as that has to be a big relief. Now it's probably preparations for her to get ready to go after school is over which is probably more stress.

    Have a great week!
