This week’s neglected book

Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough

Publication Date: January 31, 2017
Publisher: Flatiron Books

Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes?

Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.

When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.

And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend, but she also just happens to be married to David. David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife, but then why is David so controlling, and why is Adele so scared of him?

As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong, but Louise can’t guess how wrong―and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.

Why did I add Behind Her Eyes to my bookshelf?
I bought this book from Book of the Month club put it on my shelf and promptly forgot about it.  It looks like most of my friends liked but a few didn’t care for it at all.  It sounds like something I would like so I hope to give it a try.  I have made a deal with myself that I have to read at least one book that I have bought from Book of the Month club if I want to continue with the club (am I the only one who makes these kinds of deals with myself?) so maybe I will pick this one up before too long.

I had hoped to get Piper to cooperate again this week…but it just wasn’t going to happen.  Molly is back to enthusiastically present this week’s book.  Okay, she really wasn’t enthusiastic at all about posing for a picture but she still makes a great model.  While I took this picture, Piper (the puppy) ran around like a fool and Stella sat by the door trying to leave.  It is never boring here.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. It's a perfect book for Molly to model. It matches her so well. And it's another one on my shelf waiting for me to read as well.

  2. I haven't done book of the month club for many years because I was not good at reading as I went. So… I'd probably be striking deals with myself to get my reading done if I was. LOL

The blurb and title do hook me in. Hope you enjoy it, Carole! Your model may be blah about the picture, but its fun that you try. The best I can do is prop a book up near a cat when its napping b/c, if awake, neither will stay put for a picture with a book.

  3. This sounds pretty good and it's the sort of book I am most interested in reading these days. I hope it turns out well for you!

  4. I didn't like this one much at all. I may have picked it up at a bad time, but I just found it to be incredibly boring. In my notes about this one I said "Very early on I debated DNFing this book…but yet again, I pushed through because I had high hopes that it would get suspenseful and intense. It didn't. I thought that this entire book was incredibly boring." So maybe bail if you start and get bored? However, I know a bunch of bloggers that I follow that really loved it! So definitely worth a shot!
