A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads —Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?

I adored this book! I fell hard for Daphne and Miles and wanted to see good things happen for each of them. These characters grew so much throughout this story and I felt honored to tag along with them on their journey. The humor woven throughout this story was incredibly well done. I think I had a big smile on my face the whole time I read this book.

The characters in this story were absolute perfection. Daphne was engaged to be married until her fiancé, Peter, decided that he was actually in love with his childhood best friend, Petra. Daphne needs a place to live and ends up moving in with Petra’s ex, Miles. Miles and Daphne were nursing broken hearts at the start of this story but it didn’t take me very long to see that Miles might be a better catch than Peter could have ever been. Daphne and Miles seemed to fit together perfectly and I loved watching them learn to open up to each other and work through some of their issues.

I listened to the audiobook and Julia Whelan knocked this performance out of the park. She does a wonderful job of bringing this group of characters to life. I love the voices she uses for the characters and am always amazed by just how natural the male characters sound. She added just the right amount of emotion to her reading and I am certain her performance added to my overall enjoyment.

I would highly recommend this story to others. This was a delightful romance that made me laugh and touched my heart. I loved watching Daphne and Miles find their way after devastating breakups. These two had wonderful chemistry together and I couldn’t wait to see them find their own happily ever after. I need to read more of Emily Henry’s work very soon!

  1. I can’t wait to read this one! I’ve loved Henry’s previous books, but this one sounds even more fun. Now if only my library would hurry up and get me my reserved copy! ;D

  2. I really need to read this one. I ended up DNFing Happy Place but I think this one sounds like it would work much better for me.
