Stacking the Shelves #222

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
My vacation at home was a little different than I thought it would be.  I have been deeply saddened by the events going on in the US this week.  We can do better.  We must do better.

I started the week out not feeling too great.  On Tuesday, I was feeling better and we went to Target to pick up a few supplies and ended up splurging on an Instant Pot / Air Fryer combo unit which has fun to experiment with.  On Thursday, I was able to get my car inspected so that I can renew my plates.

Friday morning, I noticed that my puppy seemed to have hurt herself.  She was limping if I could get her to move and just didn’t act like her normal self.  My daughter and I had an eye appointment so we took care of that and came back to find the dog still having problems.  My daughter helped me load her in the car and we took her to the vet’s office where she had to be carried inside.  We had to leave her at the office and the vet worked her in between appointments.  She had a miraculous recovery and stopped limping and could walk all over as soon as they were able to check her out.  We are now calling our Piper a drama queen.

I didn’t get half the things done that I wanted to during my week off but it was nice to be home.  I am not eager to go back to the office tomorrow.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading
I really thought that I would read a bit more than I did this week since I was home all week.  I finished The Prisoner’s Wife early this week (see review).  Then I moved on to The Summer Deal which I loved and plan to post my review on Tuesday.  I found a little bit of time to finish up my audiobook listen of Exposed and plan to review it on Wednesday.  I flew through Crimson Lake and should have that review posted on Friday.

I am still working my way through Dragon Unleashed.  I guess I was in the mood to read print books this week since I didn’t pick up my Kindle too often despite enjoying this book.  I plan to focus on it this week.

Books Added

Legacy of Lies by Robert Bailey (Kindle First)

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

  1. oh the things I see go on in the US. I don't know how things will get better but I hope it get better soon.
I've been seeing The Prisoner's Wife around and it really looks like my type of read. Will get it once I can freely go to the bookstore 🙂

  2. Yeah the things happening are crazy. It's scary how so many demonstrations are turning so violent. I'm kind of freaked out to go to work tomorrow myself being downtown, but as far as I've been able to see nothing has happened there…yet at least.

Nice new read! That's a new to me one. I hope you enjoy it once you get to read it!

    Here's my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. Oh that would be scary about your puppy! Glad to hear she's okay. And I hear you about what's happening this week. Shocking and so disheartening. I keep thinking- we're in 2020 and STILL having these problems??

Anyway hope you have a good week.

  4. I am looking at The Summer Deal; I haven't read any Jill Shalvis's books, but I keep seeing very tempting titles.

Thanks for sharing, and I hope you keep managing in this unexplored world in which we now live! Stay safe.

  5. I’m glad the dog is okay! I once had a dog do something similar. She was lying on the floor, shivering, drooling, and whimpering. I couldn’t get her to stand up, so I rushed her to the emergency vet. As soon as we got there, she spewed a massive puddle of puke all over their lawn and was fine.

  6. I'm 100% with you on – we can do better and we need to do better.

Great books to read. Enjoy! I hope this week goes well for you

  7. I'm glad that Piper is alright. Falcor has done that and stopped limping a couple of days after the vet couldn't find anything wrong with him. But we've been told not to let him leap off the bed anymore.

  8. I'm glad you had a good vacation even if it was different than planned. Fun that you got to play with the air fryer. LOL, drama pup.
Yeah, this acting like humans thing shouldn't be this tough. 🙁
Glad you enjoyed your stack of print books.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  9. It was a sad week and disturbing week. The reactions are distressing, too!

My husband would like to get a fryer and I'd enjoy an instapot I think. Just don't know where we'd put it. I didn't get as much done on the blog on my week off either. I should be writing a review right now, but I'm putting it off to read another book instead, lol. 🙂

  10. Its so heartbreaking to see what is happening in our country right now. I pray it will get better. I have been debating grabbing up a air fryer. Hope you enjoy that splurge.

  11. I am so glad that Piper is okay. Is is always so scary when our furry family members seem hurt or sick, it is sometimes so difficult to figure out what is wrong. I am glad it was nothing serious and that a little drama was all Piper needed in her life for that day.

The murder of George Floyd has completely broken my heart. I grew up in a suburb of the Twin Cities. I lived there my whole life up until I went to college. I went to the protest here in Omaha last night. After the crowds were dispersed rather aggressively by the police department, another protest formed downtown. I did not go to that one. A 22 year old Black man was murdered by a white bar owner who bragged earlier on his Facebook page about defending his business military style – despite business owners being told not to do so. This man is well-known in the community to be racist, homophobic and transphobic – as he has shown through his business practices. The bar owner had called this young man the n-word, and the white people with him n-word lovers. This young man had not damaged the bar owner's business, and from the video it appears the murderer accosted the group walking by first with the racial slurs. #GeorgeFloyd #JamesScurlock

  12. That is quite the eventful week! I'm happy to hear Piper was okay. My own dog Cooper has been a bit dramatic as he adjusts to not having either of his dads home with him all day. I returned to work for a few days, only to be shut down by all the protests again. I go back again tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to having another go at the week.

  13. The world is crazy and I could rant but I keep quiet. I think you did great reading wise! Hope you like your instapot/airfry combo. I have one of each not a combo and I love them! 🙂

  14. Glad you're feeling better. The instant pot/air fryer combo sounds cool. I have an air fryer but don't use it very often. For some reason the Instant Pots makes me nervous. LOL The whole releasing the steam thing… it freaks me out. 🙂 I really want to read The Prisoner's Wife.

  15. Bea

I'm glad you are feeling better and that Piper is okay. Pets, man. SMH. Sorry your vacation wasn't as planned but glad you had the time off.

    Take care and stay safe!

  16. Oh poor Piper! I'm glad she turned out to be OK as that would be a worry you don't need. It didn't turn out to be a great week off for you and I hope you are feeling better now. I haven't added anything to my TBR which is a relief as my Kobo is full but I'm twitchy about getting books I've seen on blogs recently so that might not last!

  17. I am sorry that you weren't able to have quite as restful of a week off as you intended to but it sounds like you managed to get some things done. I kind of love that your little puppy is such a drama queen, hehe.
