I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.
My Life
This was quite the week. I wish I meant that in a good way. Early in the workweek, I couldn’t wait to sit down and have a snack as I walked in the door since I was hungry and had a headache. I walked into a mess. My husband and daughter had discovered that we had a roommate that we didn’t know about living in my daughter’s room in the basement. Things were everywhere and there were more than a few tears. My husband and I started working on catching the mouse and any of his friends and he, unfortunately, had a few friends hanging out with him. Then our focus shifted to determining how they got into our house.
We discovered two huge holes under the siding that were never boarded up or properly sealed. One hole looks like it was for an old dryer vent and the other was for an exhaust fan that was no longer functional. We ended up tearing the siding off of one big section of the house to seal everything up properly and decided to get rid of the exhaust in the kitchen that served no purpose while we were at it. I am working on washing all of my daughter’s clothing and items that might have been contaminated by the mouse. We still need to patch the hole in the drywall on my daughter’s ceiling and we will eventually need to replace the backsplash in the kitchen. I am happy to report that the mouse and his friends were evicted.

I hope that everyone in the United States celebrating the 4th had a happy and safe day! I spent mine relaxing with a couple of scared dogs.
What I’m Reading
I finished two books this week. I listened to The Newcomer by Mary Kay Andrews which I really enjoyed. I believe that this is my first experience with this author and I was rather impressed. I spent my mornings reading Sex/Life: 44 Chapters about 4 Men by B.B. Easton. I thought that this was a fun book and I might actually check out the Netflix show.

Of course, I jumped right into listening to Waylaid by Sarina Bowen because I cannot seem to resist her books. I have read some of Capture the Crown by Jennifer Estep at night when I can actually keep my eyes open which hasn’t been all that often this week. I realized that I was in the mood for a mystery Sunday morning so I started reading The Bone Code by Kathy Reichs and am already hooked.

Books Added

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

Oh no, what a mess! At least it’s all fixed now and you are once again mouse-less.
I plan to start Waylaid later this week. I just love the True North series.
Love the new wrap up graphic! 🙂
And as a bonus, I will get a new backsplash a lot sooner than we had planned. I am loving Waylaid! The True North series is a favorite.
Wow! Well, that wasn’t a fun discovery. You dealt with it like a champ. I am surprised to hear you had not read anything from Andrews before. I have listened to a few of her audiobook (my library has a lot). The mysteries were ok for me, but I liked her women’s fiction better.
It was not a fun discovery. I probably dealt with it like a psycho – tearing off siding and cutting holes in the ceiling…lol.
Oh that must have been unpleasant! I freaked out when we saw a vole outside our house. Then just the other day we saw a mouse that…I assume a neighborhood cat left behind or something! That was a bit unpleasant too! But creepy having them in your house. Can’t believe the holes weren’t noticed during inspection, but glad you were able to get things taken care of and the critters evicted!
Nice new reads! Those are new to me ones. I hope you enjoy them all!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
When you get an inspection, the inspector is limited to what they can see. They don’t tear off the siding to see if it has holes under it. Our basement used to have an exhaust fan and I decided to pull up the siding where it would have vented and just happened to find the problem. I still cannot believe that some idiot decided to leave an open hole under the siding – it’s sealed up now!
Ahh! I missed that it was behind something! But yeah, I can’t believe previous owners thought a hole in the house so the outside can come inside was no big deal.
Yeah, it is pretty crazy!
Oh, wow, I hate those kinds of roommates, and had some in the house I once owned in the foothills here. We hired an exterminator to search for the entry spots and he took care of them, while also regularly putting out the “poison” in the places under the eaves. Long story short, they were eventually eliminated. LOL
Not fun!
I loved The Newcomer, and hope you enjoy all of your books…and have a calm week. Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES
The house we lived in for 20 years before this one never had this problem. I tend to DIY as much as I can but I think my husband was a little fearful as I was pulling up siding.
The Newcomer was a great book!
Yikes! I hate mouse, they are a nuisance. I am happy you were able to get them out.
It is a strange feeling to know that they are hiding in your house. I am glad we took care of the issue so quickly.
Yeah, that would be a traumatic way to discover you have some unpatched holes in the house. Always interesting to discover how a previous owner did a slap-dash job on something. Glad it’s fixed and done for you and your daughter. Glad you had a great reading week. Our 4th was nice hanging out with some friends for ice cream and listening to the fireworks around the neighborhood.
It is so weird to see that someone would not seal a large hole and expect vinyl siding to be enough.
I am so glad that you had a nice 4th!
glad you got that taken care of.
Me too!
UGH. I had mice get into a rental house when I was out of town for a couple weeks. Into the kitchen! There were mouse turds in every cabinet and drawer. I had to throw so many things out. After that everything was in big plastic tubs until my lease was up and I was catching mice in the garage every week. I’m still not sure where they were getting inside.
I hope you get a break today. I want to read Capture the Crown (plan on audio) and Bone Code.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Oh, that’s horrible, Anne! I guess we have been lucky before now. I guess I am lucky that they stayed out of my kitchen.
I am really enjoying The Bone Code so far!
oh no! Not mice! Yikes
Yikes is right!
I do hate mice in the house. I am so sorry you had to deal with that mess. I am glad you enjoyed The Newcomer. I really want to read that one. I hope you have a great week and reading year!
It definitely wasn’t the best way to spend the week.
I think that you’ll enjoy The Newcomer!
Oh I’m exhausted just reading about the mouse drama! That’s awful. I’m glad you were able to get it dealt with though what a mess! Our 4th was pretty low key. We grilled out and did some fireworks but stuck mostly to quieter fountains because our cat is terrified of fireworks and I like the fountains better anyway. I hope this week is rodent free and much calmer!
What a mess. I’m so sorry. We live out in the country, so we find mice more often than I like. But (*knock on wood*) we have had limited destruction from them. Have a great week.
