Years after surviving a devastating attack, a young Southern woman returns to her hometown to exact revenge on the wealthy family who tried to destroy her.
On a rainy Southern night, Jade Sperry endured a young woman's worst nightmare at the hands of three local hell-raisers. Robbed of her youthful ideals and at the center of scandal and tragedy, Jade ran as far and as fast as she could.
Years later, Jade has never forgotten the sleepy "company town" where every man, woman, and child was dependent on one wealthy family. And she's never forgotten their spoiled son and his two friends, who changed her life forever. Now, she will return for her day of reckoning, free herself from fear, and stand up to the powerful family that could crush her in a heartbeat.
I have been a fan of Sandra Brown’s books for a very long time so it is no surprise that I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I actually liked it enough to read most of it in a single day which says a lot. This book was originally published in 1991 so it’s over 30 years old at this point. There were times that it did feel a bit dated but in no way did that get in the way of the story. I am so glad that I finally picked up this enjoyable story.
This was Jade’s story. Jade was a fantastic character and she goes through so much in this book. My heart broke for her completely. The first part of the book is one tragedy after another and I wondered just how much Jade would have to bear. I think that Sandra Brown handled a difficult topic incredibly well and expertly set the stage for why Jade is seeking revenge in the later parts of the book. We do also see Dillon’s story unfolding as you move through the book. He has also been through some tragic events and I was really curious how their stories would meet up.
While the first part of this book is completely heartbreaking, the action really picks up in the second half. Years have passed and Jade is an adult and parent of a teenage son. She is ready to get her revenge. The people from her hometown made me incredibly angry. It is crazy how much the powers in town have been able to get away with over the years. Jade and Dillion made a great team and I enjoyed seeing the romance blossom between them slowly. I thought that they were really good for each other. I was very happy that the book came to a very satisfying ending.
I would recommend this book to others. Sandra Brown is an incredibly talented author and I felt like she really shined in bringing the emotions out in this story. I will definitely be reading more of her work soon.

What a blast from the past I love her thanks for sharing
I have loved Sandra Brown’s books for a long time!
Thanks for sharing. I have only read one Sandra Brown book. Might be time to check out more of her books.
She has so many great books!
Sounds like the beginning was rough but really ended up working out so well in the end. Sandra Brown really does well with those types of buildup of plots
Great review.
It was a great book. The beginning was quite heartbreaking but set up the story perfectly.

I haven’t read as much of her work in recent years but I really should. She is a great writer.
I would love to read more of this author. I loved the ones I read and believe I would enjoy more of her backlist.
I have a ton of her books that I still need to read. Let me know if there are any of her books that you would want to buddy read!
I refuse to believe 1991 was 30 years ago! At most it was 15 years ago. I read a few Sandra Brown books years ago and really enjoyed them but it’s been ages. I need to read more by her and this sounds like a good one.
It is hard to believe, isn’t it?! I do need to read more of her work as well.
The beginning was heartbreaking! I was pleased with how it all turned out. It’s hard to go wrong with Sandra Brown! So happy you enjoyed it too!
I am glad that you liked this one too! There was one point at the beginning where I just had to set it down to prepare myself for what I suspected was going to happen. She is a very talented author.
