The terrifying sequel to the acclaimed New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling novel Chasing the Boogeyman, which was hailed as “genuinely chilling and something brand-new and exciting” (Stephen King) and “unforgettable” (Harlan Coben).

A riveting, haunting sequel to the New York Times bestselling thriller Chasing the Boogeyman—a tale of obsession and the adulation of evil, exploring modern society’s true-crime obsession with unflinching honesty, sparing no one from the glare of the spotlight. Will those involved walk away from the story of a lifetime in order to keep their loved ones safe? Or will they once again be drawn into a killer’s web? As the story draws to its shattering conclusion, only one person holds all the answers—and he just may be the most terrifying monster of them all.

I really liked this book! It took me a very long time to make my way through this story but that had everything to do with my life and nothing to do with the book. I was a bit surprised to learn that there would be a follow up to Chasing the Boogeyman but I was eager to get my hands on it since I loved the first book.

This book follows Richard Chizmar who is somewhat popular after the success of the Chasing the Boogeyman novel and movie. When a woman is murdered that is connected to the Boogeyman’s murder spree, things get interesting very quickly. The man who committed the original murders is in prison so who is responsible for the current string of murders? Richard and his family are at risk since the new killer seems to want to make sure that he stays in the spoltlight with this new string of crimes.

This book is similiar to the first book in its style – fiction written like true-crime. The transcripts and photos in every chapter really made the story feel like it was something that might have happened. I loved that the mystery kept me guessing until the very end. I did guess a few twists but in most cases, I couldn’t figure out where things would go until it was revealed in the story.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I have found this series to be rather unique and very entertaining. I do recommend that this series be read in order since the events of the original book come into play in this installment quite often. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!

I received a digital review copy of this book from Gallery Books.

  1. I just picked up another book that falls under the category of fiction written like true crime and I love the concept. I definitely need to pick up the first book.
