I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.
My Life
I keep thinking that things have to calm down. But they don’t. My office smells like an ashtray and I have been finding soot in every cabinet I open. Most days, I end up with a sore throat before the day is over. It is getting a bit better but they made it sound like it will take months for things to return to normal.
To add a little more excitement to the week, my mom called Tuesday night to tell me there was water in her basement. My husband and I found rush hour traffic to get there to find that she had a sewer backup. We were able to get someone out to clear the blockage pretty quickly. I spent part of the next day working from her house so that I could get the remediation company working on removing carpeting, discarding damaged items, and drying out the structure. We got an insurance claim started. She had to get a new hot water heater. There is still a lot of work to do but the first steps have been completed.
Things have been quiet at my house, which is a very good thing.
How was your week?
What I’m Reading
I finished 4 books this week. A couple of these were really short but I will take it! Two Can Play by Ali Hazelwood was a lot of fun and just what I needed to face another work week. I read the first 25% or so of The Five Year Lie by Sarina Bowen and was hooked so I grabbed the audio and could continue the story during the work day. I started Mister Hockey by Lia Riley a few months ago and couldn’t get into it but that was not the case this time. I enjoyed this one quite a bit! A Sky Full of Dragons by Tiffany McDaniels (author of Betty) was a delightfully whimsical middle-grade novel.
I am still juggling quite a few books. I read another two chapters of A Good Bad Boy by Margaret Wappler and it is bringing back a lot of memories. I listened to just a bit of The Hexologists by Josiah Bancroft. It is really a great book but my life is just too crazy to focus well lately. I didn’t pick up A Mask of Flies by Matthew Lyons this week but I hope to jump back in next week. I have been reading The Law by Jim Butcher during my breaks at the library and am hooked. Chances are that I will finish this one today.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Wow. That’s crazy! I never thought how long soot could last when your building space was next to the fire. That’s crazy! Your poor mom! That’s got to be rough to have all that water damage! I hope nothing important was damaged in the mess!
Nice new reads! Mostly new to me ones except for Immortal Dark which I found interesting if a bit intense and heavy. I still might continue the series though! Hope you enjoy all the new reads!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!

I hear you. Between the fire and the sewer backup, you’ve had the kind of “breakdowns” I feel like has been every week. Thankfully, that seems to have slowed own so it’s just my daughter’s health to worry. There’s always so many interesting reads to choose. I have been making some new plans to try to get to more next year. I seem to only get to audio with ebooks being harder to read when I fall asleep at night.

Soot, smoke and now the sewer line backing up? NOT a very fun week for you. I’m sorry. Here’s hoping this next week is better.
Tough luck about that basement sewage back up. You’re a great daughter to do all that with your mom. Sounds miserable at work as the fire damage continues to effect you. LOL, you do have a lot of books going at the same time.
Have a good week, Carole!
I remember when my hot water heater burst, it was a mess. Hopefully things go smoothly with the clean up.
Oh no horrible! I hope it clears faster than that
Oh my goodness! What a week! You need to go back on vacation I think. I hope this week has been much much calmer.
Your poor mother. What a mess! Glad insurance is helping some. I bought a copy of Immortal Dark. It was a Wal-Mart impulse buy but it’s a special edition and I couldn’t resist. Plus I’m totally in my vampire era again. Hope you get all the smoke damage out of your office soon!
