August 2018 Monthly Wrap-Up

August 2018
August was a month of recovery for me.  I returned to work after surgery on August 2nd and found that it would take a while to get back to where I was before surgery.  By the end of the month, I was feeling much better with more minor complaints.

August was a month of milestones for my daughter.  She turned 18, registered to vote, started her senior year of high school, and led the marching band during the opening game of the year.  She has already applied to 5 colleges for next year and receive 5 acceptance letters and 2 scholarship offers.  I am helping her with getting everything together for a competitive scholarship that is due in early September.  This whole college thing is going to be a lot of work!

I feel like my reading was way down for the month.  I did complete 15 titles but 1 was a short story, 1 was a novella, and the rest of the books that I tackled were really not very long.  I did listen to a lot of audiobooks which did boost my totals.  I have fallen way behind on review books (again) and am going to try to hold off on adding more until I can make a dent in my pile.

I am linking this post to the Monthly Wrap-Up at Feed Your Fiction Addiction.

  1. It sounds like another busy year ahead for you with all the college decisions to be made by your daughter! Overall I think your book stats are looking really good so well done!

  2. Congratulations to your daughter! I don't even think mine had her apps in until December. I hope you get a great package and she is able to attend the school of her dreams. You EW ratio is so good. I am working on mine. I think I am near 70%. NG nags you with their emails and the percentage being in your face (currently 84% and climbing), but I always forget EW, and the books I have downloaded are far off too. Good job to you though!

    • We are trying to stay ahead. My daughter is taking so many AP classes that she is going to be very short on time so we are doing it now before life gets too busy. Congrats on getting to 84% on NetGalley. That was what I had planned to happen at the beginning of the year but I feel off the wagon.

  3. It was definitely a milestone month with your daughter. Very exciting about her college prospects.
You read some good ones this month with a nice spread of requests and personal ones. Yay for finishing GR challenge and one more off the Blogger Shame.
I just read Phoenix Unbound and loved it. Hope you do, too.

    Have a great September, CArole!

  4. Sounds like it's going to be a busy school year getting your daughter ready for college after this last year of high school! Kind of glad I don't have kids to worry about…lol.

Hope you have a great week and happy reading!

  5. Well I'm glad if you are feeling better and wow, your daughter has the world by the tail! You have some amazing books there. I loved Spectacle. I got denied for Diamond Fire; I'm so bummed. But Harlequin / Avon just doesn't always like me?? I'm reading Phoenix Unbound in a state of suspense right now. Here's to a better September. Anne – Books of My Heart

    • Spectacle was amazing. I listened to it for a re-read and liked it just as much the second time around. I am so sorry that you were denied for Diamond Fire. That sucks! Phoenix Unbound seems to be a popular book right now.

  6. I am glad you are feeling better, Carole, and are feeling more back to normal. I can't believe your daughter is 18 already! I wish her (and you) all the best. I hope she gets that scholarship! I wish my slow month looked like your slow month. Haha. Seriously though, I hope you are able to get more read this next month and get more caught up on your review books. I hope you have a great week, Carole. Enjoy your new books!

  7. Huge congrats to your daughter – all acceptances and with a couple of scholarships is fantastic news!
I'm glad your recovery is still progressing well too. Slow but sure

  8. That's a wonderful total and so glad you are feeling better. I know you are so proud of your daughter – she sounds awesome. Sorry I'm hopping by late but you are aware of the whole Booker T saga. Glad to say he's doing well though and I took off today to give him one more day of having us at home. Hope you have a wonderful September too!

  9. I am happy you've been able to recover and starting to feel like yourself again! And wow, your daughter is really ticking off those milestones. Yay for acceptance letters and scholarship offers as well. The world is at her feet ^.^

  10. Senior year for us was also full of college visits, scholarship apps, senior photos, planning for the grad party, and just flew by. Before I knew it we were saying goodbye out of state. Marching band was also so much fun–my daughter was drum major for the last two years and loved it. Good luck with all your senior year stuff!!
