This week’s neglected book

Owl and the Japanese Circus by Kristi Charish

Publication Date: January 13, 2015
Publisher: Gallery Books

Ex-archaeology grad student turned international antiquities thief, Alix—better known now as Owl—has one rule. No supernatural jobs. Ever. Until she crosses paths with Mr. Kurosawa, a red dragon who owns and runs the Japanese Circus Casino in Las Vegas. He insists Owl retrieve an artifact stolen three thousand years ago, and makes her an offer she can’t refuse: he’ll get rid of a pack of vampires that want her dead. A dragon is about the only entity on the planet that can deliver on Owl’s vampire problem – and let’s face it, dragons are known to eat the odd thief.

Owl retraces the steps of Mr. Kurosawa’s ancient thief from Japan to Bali with the help of her best friend, Nadya, and an attractive mercenary. As it turns out though, finding the scroll is the least of her worries. When she figures out one of Mr. Kurosawa’s trusted advisors is orchestrating a plan to use a weapon powerful enough to wipe out a city, things go to hell in a hand basket fast…and Owl has to pick sides.

Why did I add Owl and the Japanese Circus to my bookshelf?
I bought this book right after it was released in January 2015.  Later that same year, I requested the second book from NetGalley since I knew that I would be reading it soon.  I don’t know how I have made it to April 2019 without getting started with the series.  I don’t understand myself at times.  I was noticing that this series is available at Audible and am considering picking up the audiobooks so I can get started.  Hopefully, I will knock this one off my list by the end of the year.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. Ha! I've done that. In fact, I've got the latest The Others release for review and I've got three more to read before that one This is a series that I want to read eventually, too.

  2. Yep, once again you are featuring a book I have. Even the second one too. I'm sure I'll get to it someday (at least that's what I tell myself).

  3. I did read this one. I haven't red any of the others though. This one was fun for the Las Vegas and Tokyo settings, and I liked the Bali sequence too. Hope you enjoy it!

  4. I love this author and I want to read this series. I keep forgetting about it too! I am enjoying the current Voodoo series. Anne – Books of My Heart

  5. This sounds so fun! I'm going to add it to my list and I plan on not letting it wait too long. LOL

  6. This was on my Goodreads to-read shelf at one point. I may have taken it off somewhere along the line. I'll have to check. Now that I have read your synopsus, I don't know if it still interests me. I think my interest was spurred by the older cover. Maybe? I'll keep my eye out for your review. ?✨

  7. 'I don't understand myself at times.' I can really relate to that statement when it comes to books! Sometimes it takes me ages to get to a sequel even though I really enjoyed book one DD:
