Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.  If you are anything like me, you might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks.

This week’s neglected book

The war with the Eastern Empire ended in stalemate some eighty years ago, thanks to Nall’s ‘Engine’, a wizard-crafted weapon so powerful even the Deep Kings feared it. The strike of the Engine created the Misery – a wasteland full of ghosts and corrupted magic that now forms a No Mans Land along the frontier. But when Galharrow investigates a frontier fortress, he discovers complacency bordering on treason: then the walls are stormed, and the Engine fails to launch. Galharrow only escapes because of the preternatural magical power of the noblewoman he was supposed to be protecting. Together, they race to the capital to unmask the traitors and restore the republic’s defences. Far across the Misery a vast army is on the move, as the Empire prepares to call the republic’s bluff.

Why did I add Blackwing to my bookshelf?
I have no excuses for neglecting this book.  I love the sound of it and I was actually lucky enough to get my hands on early copies of this book and the next book in the series.  I love a good fantasy and this one sounds a bit darker than a lot of them which is a big plus.  I am seriously considering picking up the audiobook so I can fit it in soon.

    Haha, we were on the same wavelength for what caught our eye this week. Your fantasy pick does sound fab. I have a feeling it will be great.

    It was very interesting. I reviewed it when it was released, in fact I just got book 3. It is GRIM and DARK. It is the kind of fantasy where I do often prefer audiobook because it can be hard to read, but I am reading this series and it is going fine. The author is on Twitter and is quite fun.

      I think that is actually an ad because I am using the free version of InLinkz. It has popped up during a couple of weeks that had this many link ups. I hate it but I have not found a free version that would be any better and this is not a time in my life that I can really start paying for such a service.
