Stacking the Shelves #196

Posted November 17, 2019 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 23 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This was an okay week.  I started the week out on Monday with a migraine and decided to take a sick day.  It snowed on Monday and there was quite a bit of ice on the roads on Tuesday morning so my boss decided we would have a late start that day.  It spent the rest of the workweek just trying to catch up!

On the reading front, it was pretty slow going this week.  I had a couple of days that I couldn’t seem to focus and got next to no reading done but I did finish a couple of things before the week ended.  I hope to get a little more done this week.

I don’t have a lot of plans for the week.  My birthday is this week but that hasn’t been a big deal for a long time…lol.  I am considering taking a day off work though just because it sounds like a good excuse to stay home and read.  My daughter will be coming home next weekend for her Thanksgiving break which will last a week and we are looking forward to that.

Books Added
I added a few books for review….

House on Fire by Joseph Finder (NetGalley)
The Last Human by Zack Jordan (NetGalley)
Survive the Aftermath by Grace Hamilton (Audiobook Boom)
Queen’s Gambit by Bradley Harper (Narrator)
Days Since…: Thomas Day 758 by Robert Wilson (Audiobook Boom)
Lady Anne and the Howl in the Dark by Victoria Hamilton (Narrator)
Man-Eater  by Ryan Green (Audiobook Boom)
The Journals of Octavia Hollows: Books 1-6 by Stacey Rourke (Caffeinated PR)

and I placed another order at Book Outlet…

and I received a few books in the mail from publishers…

Fargo: This Is a True Story by Noah Hawley (Publisher)
This Earl of Mine by Kate Bateman (Won – Anne @ Books of My Heart)

  1. Happy birthday Carole! I never make a big fuss on my birthday either but it is a good excuse for a reading day! My books this week are all shiny tempting Game of Thrones books!

  2. My birthday has never been a big deal, but I refuse to go to work on that day. I hope you reward yourself with a day off and take the day to do something that makes you happy. Happy Early Birthday!

  3. I hope you have a happy birthday! I would take the day off and then fuss with getting everything ready for Thanksgiving instead of relaxing and reading. You should relax and read. It will be fun to have your daughter home. I need to ask my daughter what she will eat for Thanksgiving – she is so food moody. I will have turkey, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole and probably sweet potatoes and apple crisp. That sounds like enough to me. I've been collecting the GF stuff to make green bean casserole. Have a lovely week and enjoy those new books!

  4. The snow is finally melting on my end, thank god!

Happy early birthday week, Thanksgiving feels sooo far away.

  5. I am sorry your week started out so poorly, and hope you were able to catch up at work. Those weeks can be so stressful. I hope you enjoy your new books! They all look like they will be fun reads.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday, Carole! Enjoy your week!

  6. I know what you mean about birthdays. LOL I have zero issue with getting older but I also don't feel the need to announce my birthday to the world and celebrate. It's really just another day. Even so, I hope you have a wonderful day… and you should totally take the day off!

  7. Migraines are no fun. πŸ™ Driving on ice would terrify me! Glad to hear you didn't have to go in until later. Hopefully it melted some by then?

I enjoyed This Earl of Mine so I hope you do too! πŸ™‚

  8. Hmm…I need to place a Book Outlet order too. I think you should definitely stay home on your birthday. My company even allows us a holiday for our birthday!

  9. I think staying home and reading sounds like the perfect way to spend a birthday! Hope you have a fantastic one and that all the migraines and ice stay away. Have a great week!

  10. I hope you wrap up warm and survive the colder weather! And there is nothing wrong with taking a day off to enjoy your birthday peacefully πŸ™‚ I see a lot of White novels… I hope you enjoy them all!
