Stacking the Shelves #242

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
Well, that was quite a week.  I had a bad feeling that Wednesday would not go well but I am still disgusted by the images I saw from the events of the day.
This was the last week that we had our daughter home for her college break so we tried to enjoy just spending a bit of time together.  She is now back at school and her college has no spring break scheduled so I am not sure when she will be home next.
Going back to work for a full work week was a rough adjustment after two short weeks.  Work has been slow which can make the day drag a bit.  It seems like there is so much to do at home every day that I am having trouble keeping up with everything.  My goal today is to catch up on some blog visits and do a better job at prepping for the week so it can be more manageable.
How was your week?
What I’m Reading
I started the week out in a bit of a reading slump.  I did seem to do okay with audiobooks though once the work week started.  I listened to Destined for Love by Melissa Foster early in the week.  Then I moved on to The Wicked Sister by Karen Dionne which I absolutely loved.

I am still reading You Have a Match by Emma Lord.  I am about two-thirds of the way through the book and should finish it later today.  I picked up The Forever Girl by Jill Shalvis Saturday morning and have had a hard time putting it down.  I will either finish this book Saturday night or possibly Sunday morning.

  1. Yeah, last week was a gong show. Hopefully, y'all will bounce back from it — as you would.

Anyway, is that new Jill Shalvis a part of a series? I love her! Also, interested about that new Emma Lord novel.

Have a great reading week, Carole.

    • The Shalvis book is a part of a series but each book in the series reads as a stand alone so there is no need to read the series in any kind of order. I am almost done with You Have a Match and am enjoying it quite a bit.

  2. They're not doing college breaks anymore? Are the kids getting out earlier? Strange. I guess they don't want them traveling? I knew you would like The Forever Girl. It's so good, right? Match was cute. Not as good as Tweet Cute, but Lord has a gift for humor and snappy banter, so I enjoyed it.

    • I don't really know about other colleges but no spring break this semester at my daughter's school. They are giving them "mental health" days in the middle of the week spread throughout the semester instead.

  3. Ah, yes, Wednesday was a day that loomed…and it was even darker than I had imagined. Sigh.

Books are my go-to thing now…and I keep noticing The Forever Girl. Enjoy your week!

  4. Yeah I knew this week would be rough too! I had 3 weeks of 3 day weeks since I took off Thursday and Friday the week of my birthday. Work itself was a mix of being busy and slow. It seemed to only get slower as the week went on though. So ugh.

Nice new reads! Some new to me ones here but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  5. Good luck with your goals! I also have a very hard time keeping up with blog hopping. I do a bunch of it, and then stop, and then realize I haven’t visited any blogs in over a week. Then I scramble to catch up.

  6. I feel you on adjusting to the full work week again! I somewhat struggled last week generally because I found myself with so much work to do and my mind initially panicked over all of them. But I'm catching up.
I've been seeing You Have a Match and I just really love that cover. lol.

Hope you'll have a better week ahead, Carole!

  7. I hope your daughter enjoyed her last week home and that the rest of her school year goes well. I didn't get as much done as I was hoping to around the house this past week either. Work for me wasn't too busy, which in a way was nice, but as you said, it does make time go slow. I was in a 7 hour Zoom training one day. That's just too long for an online training if you ask me.

I am glad you were able to get in some audiobooks. I honestly don't know when I will be able to listen to any again. I keep looking for ways, but it's hard since I'm never alone and my work isn't conducive to listening to them. I can't even get through a podcast with multiple interruptions.

I hope you you enjoy your current and new reads, Carole! And I hope you have a great week!

  8. Yes the Capitol events were disgusting. Hopefully there will be consequences to reduce sedition in the future. I'm rereading Dead Heat now, then Burn Bright, before getting to my ARC for Wild Sign. I did start at the beginning over the holidays. I'm behind on visiting and Sunday while I do more visiting it is still hard to catch up.

  9. It's definitely a struggle to get back to routine after a couple of weeks off. My husband struggled and his commute is just to the dining room! We've been struggling to get back into school and having more regular hours which is harder then one would think! I really want to read that Jill Shalvis. I'm so behind with her books. Hope you have a great week!

  10. Yeah, it would be tough to go back to a full week especially when it's slow. That's how it was for my husband. He took a long break a few times and came home for home-cooked dinners (works afternoons) to break up his day. Sad Wednesday, for sure.
Glad you got a good visit with your daughter. I remember when I went to college that I had to last from August to December and then January to May since it cost too much to fly home for the shorter breaks and holidays. It's tough, but hopefully it will go fast for you. 🙂
You got a lot of books in this past week.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  11. Yes its definitely tough to be at work when its slower, hope the pacing for you picks up. Hope you are able to get everything prepped that you need for the week. In The Penalty Box and Amalie Howard's book I am looking forward there. I hope you enjoy all of your new acquistions.

  12. Glad you enjoyed the time with your daughter. Strange that there’s no spring break, but I guess they want to limit the travel? I keep seeing great reviews for that Shalvis book!

  13. Wednesday was a shock! I mean, I figured there was going to be some shenanigans going on but holy cow nothing like that! Crazy. And it is tough going back after short weeks! I always hate that. Hope you're having a nice weekend and have a good week ahead!

The Wicked sister looks like a good one!

  14. This past week has been insane, and Wednesday was awful! I hope your new books provide good distractions.

I've seen Crown of Bones around this week, and I'm intrigued.

    Happy reading!
