Stacking the Shelves #6

Posted February 6, 2016 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 30 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews
I went a little nuts this week.  Maybe a lot nuts if I am being honest.  To be fair, I just couldn’t help myself! I did spend some money this week – about $55 (not including my daughter’s books) but I feel okay about it since I don’t do this kind of book shopping very often.

NetGalley

Most Wanted by Lisa Scottoline
City of Blades by Robert Jackson Bennett (Blogging for Books pick)
Worth It All by Claudia Connor

I am happy with my NetGalley additions this week.  I am pretty excited about reading each of these books.

Book Outlet

Best Friends, Occasional Enemies by Lisa Scottoline & Francesca Serritella
Meet Me at Emotional Baggage Claim by Lisa Scottoline & Francesca Serritella

My 15 year old daughter prefers paper books to ebooks.  Crazy kid!  I showed her the Book Outlet site after discovering it myself a couple of weeks ago.  The next thing I knew I was buying her a whole box of books.  These were ridiculously cheap at $2.48 for the pair so I picked these two up for myself.

Local Book Fair

When the local community center held a book fair this week, my paper book loving daughter talked me into to taking her.  She really had to twist my arm.  I swore that I wouldn’t buy much for myself.  17 books isn’t much is it?  I did grab some books that I have been wanting to read.  I paid $42 for this big stack of books plus a $10 entry fee.  I think I did pretty good overall.  My daughter also talked me into a large stack of books for her but I am pretty easy to convince when it comes to buying books.

Kindle Freebies

Angel by Victoria Dahl
Dare to Surrender by Carly Phillips
Throttled by Elizabeth Lee
The Walking Dead #1 by Robert Kirkman
Flirting With The Competition by Kerri Carpenter
The Nightingale Bones by Ariel Swan
Running Wild Sara Jane Stone
The Rogue You Know by Shana Galen
Snowfall by Sharon Sala
The Goldfish Bowl by Laurence Gough
To Be the Best by Barbara Taylor Bradford
Time Without End by Linda Lael Miller
The Park by Voss Foster

It’s no secret that I can’t resist a freebie!  There have been a lot of traditionally published authors with freebies on Amazon this week.  A lot of these books are no longer free so I am feeling pretty lucky.   I tend to grab anything that looks somewhat interesting.  I do hope to get a chance to read these.
What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. I admit I used to feel guilty about buying more books with so many in my house waiting to be read…but now I hardly care! Books are my only vice! Great haul this week, enjoy it!

    • It was a small book fair but I found a lot of great books. I probably would have bought more but my pile was getting too heavy to carry. My daughter went nuts on the Book Outlet site. Of course, she now has a lot of books that I can borrow if I want.

  2. 17 books is a completely reasonable amount of books – especially given your location. You had to support the event! And now you have me wanting to hit the used bookstore. I can hear it calling me!

  3. 17 books is completely okay! I think the most physical books that I've bought at the same time is around 20 or so. Hey, we can't live without them. Great haul! BTW, if you loved City of Stairs, City of Blades is gonna rock your socks off. Greatest sequel ever!

    • I didn't count how many my daughter got at the book fair. I go a little crazy at these things. I still need to read City of Stairs so I picked it up at the library today. I keep seeing fabulous reviews for City of Blade so I decided to jump in.

  4. Dang! That's quite a book haul! I love freebie books too. I get the Kindle Deals of The Day email, but usually there aren't books I like. Do you subscribe to a different email, or do you just check Amazon daily to see what they are offering for free? Have a great week.

    • I do get a lot of emails. I get the Deal of the Day emails but those are usually books on sale not freebies. I found out some of these were free from other bloggers. I do follow an amazon discussion that posts about discounts where I found out about a lot of these. Sometimes I find out that something is free because of a post on Goodreads.

    • I actually read an ARC of The Rogue You Know and enjoyed it. I decided to grab a final copy in case I ever decide to do a re-read. I think the first one of the series was free a couple of months ago and the next one comes out in a couple of weeks. I think it is a fun series!

    • There aren't as many book fairs any more. This one used to be huge and now it takes up a space half of the original size. I still seem to be able to find more than I really need. The money raised went to a good cause so that is even better.

Wow, you did go crazy! But you did really well too. I haven't heard of Book Outlet but it sounds wonderful.

  6. You went on Book Outlet and only bought two books? How is that possible?!? When I go on there, I buy anywhere from 4 to 10 at a time! 😉
