Stacking the Shelves #82

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality
Another busy week around here!  My daughter started school on Thursday which seem way too early in the year to me.  Her jazz group gave us tickets to see Herbie Hancock in concert that same night.   My husband was also out of town for part of the week which also threw off our normal routine.  I a hoping for a calm weekend.

Another week of no review books!

Digital Books

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (Kindle Purchase)

I already have the audio of this book which I started listening to this week.  I realized after 3 1/2 hours of listening that I was having trouble following all the aspects of the story.  I love the sound effects and the narration of the audio but I think this is a book that I need to read before trying to listen to it.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. Wow, that does seem early for school to be starting. My friend's girls start at the end of the month. My daughter starts PreK at the beginning of Sept (6th). I hope you end up getting the calm weekend that you want! Sorry to hear that your current audiobook isn't going well for you. I really want to give audiobooks a try one day. Happy reading!

    • When I was in school, we started after Labor Day but it keeps getting earlier and earlier every year here. August 10 it too early! I just need to focus on the book more than I can at work. I am sure that I will listen to it some time in the future.

  2. Schools seems to be starting earlier and earlier these days. I remember it be mostly late August, now it's mid! I'm sure in another 2 years it will be early August!

That's a new to me read! Sorry the audio is giving you trouble. Hopefully reading it, like you said, will be better!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. That is really early to start school. I'm in Canada and we start school (well university) the first week of September. Good luck to your daughter, and I hope you enjoy your new book 🙂
    Here is my STS

  4. The sooner school starts, the sooner it ends, that's what I always believed. I was pretty excited that the Romance Readers Club free download was Good Boy by Bowen and Kennedy, because I have been wanting to read it, and I am not allowing myself to buy any books. I got approved for Prince in Disguise, which shocked me, because Disney usually denies all my requests. So, yeah, because I love Strohm and am really excited about it. I got eARCs for Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe, Olivia Twist, and Before I Let You Go. So, lots to look forward to.

    • It doesn't really feel like she gets out all that early though. Usually just before Memorial Day depending on snow days. Sounds like you picked up some great books this week. I hope you enjoy them!

  5. Yeah, that is early for a school start date especially to me since our kids around here don't start until after Labor Day. Hope your week gets back on track now that Back to School settles down and your husband is home.

I've had a few books that have too many details or character narrations for me to listen to it first, too.

    Have a good week, Carole.

Wow, that is early! In the UK, we go back in September. 🙂 I hope you get to enjoy Neverwhere.

  7. I am hoping you have a calm weekend. Many of the schools in nearby districts started up this past week. My daughter still has until the end of the month, fortunately.

I loved Neverwhere. I read it in print, so didn't listen to it though. I hope you have better luck with the print version if you do give it a try that way!

  8. Hard to believe school is starting already. It doesn't start here for a few weeks yet but it's coming fast! Hope you have that quiet weekend, and that you enjoy Neverwhere.

  9. My post is all about nasty things living in the water this week! I'm doing well with the films too, getting four watched this weekend. I hope to get a few more looked at tonight. Have a great week!

  10. It's quite too early indeed for the school to start, good thing I'm done with school hehe. Haven't read anything from Gaiman before though. I'm still browsing what to read next though hehe

  11. I feel like Thursday is such a weird day to go back to school, but then again maybe it eases students back into the routine easier? I've never read anything by Neil Gaiman before; however, I've always heard good things about his books. Happy reading, and have a great week! 🙂

  12. Your daughter is going back to school already?! That's crazy! This is the first year that I won't be going back to school this fall. It's super weird.

As for your Neil Gaiman book, I've only read one of his books, STARDUST, but I hope you enjoy this one.

  13. I hope you got that calm weekend! I can't believe school is starting already in some states/areas. Time really flies!

I've never read anything by Gaiman! I've heard a lot of good things about his books but I've never tried one. I want to read that Norse Mythology one. 😀 Happy reading!

Have a lovely week, Carole. =)

  14. Can you believe I haven't read a Gaiman book, although I recently bought American Gods. They start back to school here on Wednesday. I always think middle of the week startings are crazy.

  15. It's amazing how one person being out of town throws off the routine. Everything always seems so much harder! I have this book on my TBR and it's good to know that it's one I should try in print first. Audio is not for every book!

    • The dogs really didn't like the change in routine which had an effect on everyone in the house. Audio might have worked for Neverwhere if you were in a situation where you could really focus but that isn't how I listen so it will have to print book for me.
