August 2019 Wrap Up

Posted September 2, 2019 by Carole in Monthly Wrap-Up / 20 Comments

August 2019
August was an eventful month.  We dropped our daughter off at college in August so it has been a month of adjustment.  I ended up taking 3 round trips to her school during the month because a broken window in her car at school. Hopefully, I won’t need to spend so much time driving back and forth to her school in future months.

We have not only been adjusting to an empty nest, we have been dealing with our puppy.  She is cute but boy is she a lot of work.  I knew puppies were a lot of work before we brought her home but I think my memory was fuzzy about some of the details.  For example, I have had to stop working on this post at least 4 times to deal with the puppy.  Everything just seems to take longer these days. Piper is a very good puppy but there is a part of me that looks forward to the future when she is out of this stage.

I am linking this post to the Monthly Wrap-Up at Feed Your Fiction Addiction.

I am still not doing a great job with my plan to read from rotating categories. In fact, I didn’t get to a single past due ARC during the month.  I hope to do better in September

  1. As a kid I'd have loved a dog but my parents were afraid it would affect my dad's asthma so we couldn't risk it. I often think of that beagle puppy we were offered by a friend! Good progress on your Audiobook and New Releases challenges so that is something to be pleased about! I hope things settle down a bit so you can have a good reading month ahead.

August was a month of good reading for me and progress on most things. I've started a whole new reading list and I hope it keeps me motivated for the rest of the year!

  2. Yes I am sorry to say I have had a puppy once and all the rest of my dogs were rescues that were older. Lulu is about 1.5 and that was what I wanted. You did well with your challenges and reading. You had a lot going on these last couple of months so give yourself a break. I want to read some of your August books. 🙂

I remember our youngest dog when she was a puppy, she was a lot of work for a while but she finally settled down. You reading challenges look great!

  4. It's hard to remember how much work pups are, because look at that face! So sweet! Things You Save in a Fire was one of my top August reads too. That book was phenomenal.

  5. Four books read from NetGalley is great! ?✨

My family used to have a show kennel and I will never forget how much work puppies are. Ha ha. ?

I hope your week is starting well. ?

  6. Puppies can be so much work! It's exhausting. I feel for you guys lol.

I took a quick peek at your review for The Passengers. Glad it was good, I think I need to get that one.

  7. I've never had a puppy, but I know that they can be so energetic and precocious. 🙂 Hopefully, you'll have the energy to last until adulthood.

Not bad on your reading total. LOL, so hard to stick to the reading plan. My August reading plan was tossed aside, too.

    Have a great September, Carole!

  9. I remember when we first brought our dog Riley home–he was a year old, but still so young and, oh so much energy! He was always getting into trouble. LOL I still miss him. I hope your daughter is adjusting well to college. It's bittersweet, isn't it? You are so proud of her, but I'm sure miss her. So many great sounding books this month! You may not have stuck to your plan of rotating in some of the older titles, but it looks like you read quite a few good ones to make up for it. 🙂 I hope you have a great rest of the week, Carole!

  10. I love you pup! I remember how much work puppies are, that's why we adopted an older rescue dog, already trained. 12 books is awesome. Hope your September is going well!

  11. Ah, the beginning months of adjustment are always the hardest and hopefully she will get settled down in university soon! I am glad you have a new little troublemaker to keep you busy at home. The adorable doggy <3
