Stacking the Shelves #194

Posted November 3, 2019 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 24 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
I hope that everyone had a great Halloween!  It was very cold at my house which made it uncomfortable for the trick or treaters (and my husband who sat outside to hand out candy).  The heater at my office isn’t working correctly so I was pretty uncomfortable at work for a couple of days this week.  I have a space heater to use but it isn’t quite the same.  I really hope the heat gets fixed soon at the office!

On Friday, my husband and I, along with some friends, went to a concert by a local Nirvana cover band which was a lot of fun.  Yesterday, we spent a big chunk of the day doing errands and visiting our mothers.

On the reading front, I have been crawling through a book of short stories.  I finally finished it last night and am looking forward to moving on to something else.  I really hope that my reading picks up speed soon.

Books Added

I am the first to admit that I went a little crazy with book buying this past week.  Last weekend, I went to the local Half Price Books store and left with this pile of books.

Then on Tuesday, I received my order from Book Outlet.

On Thursday, I received my other order from Book Outlet.

Yesterday, I went to another Half Price Books store.

I picked up two books for review and two audiobooks during Audible’s recent sale.

I actually did receive a couple of additional books from publishers during the week but I will share them next week.  I am definitely in book collecting mode and I am having trouble getting myself out of that mode.  I probably shouldn’t mention the pile of ebooks I bought because of the Amazon offer of $40 when I purchased $60 of ebooks (I had a gift card so I didn’t have to spend much at all).  If only I could read books as fast as I buy them 🙂

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. the struggle of buying to many books then reading really few at a time is real. hahaha. I see so many interesting mystery thrillers in those stacks. I read Ruth Ware's Woman in Cabin 10 so I'm really interested to pick up another of her books.

  2. I did get a stack of Book Outlet books and a few off Amazon this week. I get it about collecting and needing to actually read them. 🙂 Glad you guys were able to get out to the concert and go for family visits. Halloween was a chilly washout for us. Hope your work heater gets fixed.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  3. Yeah, our trick or treater count was much lower this year than in all the past years. Our neighbor said he doubled our 20 so I'm not sure when all those kids came. I closed up at 8 since my parents were out of town for the evening and I didn't relish being open late home alone! Lol.

Oh! I meant to ask, did you see Meg Cabot and Rick Riordan will be at the SLCL HQ on November 11? I totally forgot to mention that one to you last time around! I just saw it on my calendar again! That one I fear how crazy it will be! I'm excited to see Meg again and want to get the rest of my Abandon trilogy signed! I was lucky enough that when she came around the first time I got my Mediator series signed and ordered the last one signed (which resulted in a credit card scandal but was resolved swiftly afterwards!)!

Hope the heat at work gets fixed soon and you have a nice week ahead!

    Here's my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. I'm afraid to actually look at Book Outlet. But I'm only willing to collect digital at this point. Thanks for your suggestions for the Audible sale. I thought about the spend $60 get $40 but I didn't. You will see I got plenty of reading materials this week anyway.

Stay warm and get in some relaxing and reading before the holidays, Carole!

  5. You have a lot of nice new books there. I have only ever gotten a $5 if I buy $40 from Amazon. They must know how cheap I am. Hope you find some winners in there.

  6. It got cold here to this past week. I had to pull the coat out of the closet for the first time in months. You have some great books there. Happy reading.

  7. What a haul!! 🙂 Our trick-or-treating was rescheduled for today from 2-4pm. We only eneded up getting 4 trick or treaters. I think our driveway was too long for them to be interested in walking up. Maybe next year I'll put the candy at the end of the drive on a little table or something.

  8. We didn't even hand out candy this year. The weather was horrible and Mr. Barb had to work. Knowing that, I didn't buy a lot either though so at least we don't have TONS of leftovers. You have acquired some awesome books!

  9. I saw on Instagram that you've had quite a haul from Book Outlet. I'm waiting for Black Friday to pull the trigger on my shopping cart. Lol.

    Have a great week, Carole!

  10. Hope your heater gets fixed at the office. It's miserable being cold all day.

You got some great books: Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs and Kelley Armstrong. Love those authors! 🙂

  11. I have had to put myself in a book-buying time out. I will never get that backlog taken care of otherwise!! Half Price Books is able to suck me in so easily and I can totally justify spending $100 like it is nothing, because OF COURSE at Barnes and Noble that treasure trove would've cost so much more. Ah, the lives of bookworms…

  12. Brr. I hope your office warms up soon. The concert sounded like a lot of fun! My reading tends to slow down when I'm reading short stories too. You would think it would be the opposite, wouldn't you? Look at all those awesome books! I hope you love them. I am looking forward to Starbreaker. I hope you love Broken Girls as much as I did.

    Have a great week, Carole!

  13. So many books! Hooray for all the new additions! I so wish we had Half Price Books here. I see The Serpent King in your Book Outlet order. I had mixed feelings about that one (there was one character that I really struggled with) but there was one particular scene that made such an impact on me. I’ve never forgotten it. It kind of broke me. 🙁

  14. Ah, heaters are so important for when the weather starts to get cooler so I hope they can fix it in the office soon! And wow, that is an epic haul for this week! I love that you kept on going back for more. And I spy The Serpent King, which is one I really want to read as well :3
