My Life

This was not a great week. I have basically been absent online this week, largely because the rest of my life was overwhelming. My husband had complained that his teeth hurt last Saturday. He woke up on Sunday morning with his lower jaw incredibly swollen. I knew that he probably had an abscess so we decided to go to the Urgent Care Dentist. While we were there my husband passed out and almost looked like he was having a heart attack (he was not), and the dentist called 911. He didn’t bounce back from the episode very quickly and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. We were able to go home after a few hours. If you are curious, he had a vasovagal syncope and he has had this before but not for a very long time.

Once we got my husband home, he slept all day and I spent the rest of Sunday handling the weekly chores. I can’t walk all 3 dogs together by myself, I can do 2 but not 3, so I had to do 2 dog walks. The laundry had to get done. Groceries needed to be bought and I had to pick up my husband’s medicine. Monday morning, I called our regular dentist who wanted to see my husband so I left work to take him since I didn’t trust him to drive. I have been trying to make up the hours that I missed that day by working at home on the nights that I don’t have to work at the bookstore. Things were pretty busy at the bookstore since the annual inventory was completed on Wednesday night.

I am trying. I promise that I have the best intentions and it sometimes feels like I just can’t get ahead or catch a break. Hopefully, I will be able to stop by and say hi to everyone this week.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I cleared 3 books from my tbr this week. I decided to DNF When Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte Stein at the 50% mark. The constant inner monologue of the female main character was just too much for me and I realized that I didn’t care what happened anymore. I followed that up with The Boy Who Cried Bear by Kelley Armstrong which proved to be an excellent listen. Swift and Saddled by Lyla Sage was the perfect fit for my mood this week and I really grew to love the characters.

I have only read a couple of chapters of The Night Ends with Fire by K.X. Song but I am enjoying it quite a lot. I listened to about 25% of The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden before realizing that I was in the mood for a different kind of book. What I read was good and I look forward to reading more of it next week. I have listened to around a third of Right on Cue by Falon Ballard and cannot wait to see these characters fall for each other.

  1. Oh no! I hope your husband is doing better now! That sounds scary! Don’t worry about blogging when things like this happen! Blogging shouldn’t even be a thought, especially with working two other jobs and trying to keep your household running, which in itself is a third job on top of blogging. I hope he’s better now or on the road to recovery!

Nice new reads too! These are all totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all when you get to read them!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. Oh my goodness, thank God your husband is okay, besides the abscess. I hope you have a better week, Carole. 🤗

  3. Oh, Carole, what a stressful week for you. ((HUGS)) I hope the husband is on the mend, and those dogs owe you big-time. Glad it wasn’t just me who struggled with When Grumpy Met Sunshine. It had a starred editorial review. I was reading it and had trouble following what was going on. Maybe it was what you said, the endless inner monologues. I hope this week is better for you

  4. I’m sorry it was such a tough week. If I was there I’d help walk the dogs. I can manage 3 but Lulu is small and Abby is elderly. Marley is bigger and active but so interested in sniffing. I usually just have the two and they are very used to each other and how it works. I hope this week is a big improvement!

Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

  5. Oh my goodness! What a week you had. I’m glad your husband is doing better but what a scary time you both had of it. Too bad about When Grumpy Met Sunshine. I liked the premise but I’m not a big fan of inner monologues and your life is way too busy to read books you’re not enjoying. I just read my first Kelley Armstrong book and I absolutely loved it. Have a great week!

  6. I’m so sorry you and your husband had to go through that. It sounds super scary. I hope he is feeling better now. Don’t worry about not visiting much. You are so busy and of course, family takes priority and you are working insane hours. Hope this week is better for you.

  7. I am sorry you and your husband had such a rough week. How scary about your husband. I hope he is feeling better. I am sorry When Grumpy Met Sunshine didn’t work for you but am glad you liked The Boy Who Cried Bear. I can’t wait to read that one. I hope you have a better week this week, Carole. Take care.

  8. Oh my gosh, Carole, I am sorry to hear about your husband! My husband had a medical scare last year that completely altered our lives, so I can relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed. House chores and blogging can undoubtedly take a back burner as you get him back to 100%. Please make sure you take whatever time you can for yourself. I didn’t focus on my well-being much while caring for my husband, and it began to take a toll on me. We’ll always be here if you ever need any kind of support.

  9. Oh wow! You haven’t had a good week, Carole! I’m so sorry to hear about your husband, but happy that it was a vasovagal episode (my daughter has them) instead of something more serious like a heart attack! Still, having an abscess is not fun or easy either! And having to keep things going in the household with dogs and chores by yourself can’t be easy. Sending virtual hugs your way. I hope you get some rest, Carole!

I’ll be listening to The Boy Who Cried Bear so I’m happy to hear you loved it. That series is so good! Yes, I’d DNF any book that isn’t bringing you joy, too!
