My Life

What a week! I feel like I somehow did a lot and got nothing done all at once. We stayed home last Sunday and got caught up on some things around the house and relaxed a bit. It was wonderful. I can’t remember the last time I was actually able to spend an entire day at home. Since I have been working two jobs, I typically only get one day off per week and that day tends to be spent running around.

I worked the Iron Flame release party at my Barnes & Noble and had a blast. I actually can’t remember having that much fun while working before. We had some games and activities to keep everyone entertained before we sold the book at midnight. I ended up being the person behind the microphone during trivia and the contests. I guess it is a good thing that I am not shy!

Since Monday was such a late night, I took Tuesday off work. I couldn’t sleep Monday night so I felt a bit off all day but we were able to get our Driver’s Licenses renewed and had lunch with my mom. On Wednesday, I went to an author event to meet Ava Reid with my oldest daughter and was thrilled to get my books signed.

I had planned to spend Thursday evening on the computer writing reviews and visiting blogs but I just couldn’t get myself to do it. The 40 hours of computer time at my full-time job has been incredibly tedious with tons of data entry and I am just over staring at a screen. I actually took a step back from all social media this week to avoid Iron Flame spoilers and it felt great. I spent some time working on a puzzle while listening to Iron Flame this week which was the break that I needed.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 4 books this week. I really liked To Kill a Shadow by Katherine Quinn and it felt good to sit down and actually read a book with my eyes. I should do that more often! I loved The Graham Effect by Elle Kennedy and even laughed out loud several times while listening. I started listening to Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros just as soon as it was available on my app. To say that I loved it is an understatement. I ended the week with The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson which was the spicy werewolf romance that I didn’t know that I needed.

I have just started Bad Girls Break Bridges by S.L. Choi but have high hopes for it since I liked the first two books in the series quite a lot.

Books Added

Sanctuary of the Shadow by Aurora Ascher (Publisher); What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher (Publisher); Mister Lullaby by J.H. Markert (Publisher)

  1. I guess there are some great perks with that second job, though I couldn’t work an event that went that late. I am eyeing The Graham Effect, but you know me and long contemporaries. I have trust issues about why it’s so long. Glad Fake Mate was a good one. I am reading that later in the week.

  2. Oh nice! I ended up not going to an Iron Flame release party. I am not much of a night owl anymore and struggle to even fall asleep most nights. Even weekends when I know I don’t have to get up and do stuff the next morning. It’s a struggle! I did take off Tuesday for a doctor appointment and to track down the holiday Fourth Wing edition! My B&N didn’t state that they had it with store inventory and I was worried about the release parties so I went to Target which was its own stressball! Lol. I was planning to go to the Ava Reid signing but after I finished A Study in Drowning, I couldn’t bring myself to go since I wasn’t really in love with the book. I did go to Tricia Levenseller’s signing Friday as I love her books and thought why not get my FL ones “officially” signed?! Plus her new one! Lol. Then Saturday, as you’ll see, I made the long haul drive to meet Rebecca Yarros! It was fun! I wish she could’ve done a talk and signing but I guess they decided an assembly signing line was better…? Oh well. It was still fun!

Nice new reads! I am trying to figure out when to read Iron Flame. With blogging being a dying breed, I don’t encounter spoilers as much. And if I see anything related to a book I want to read I usually skim past it…maybe give a picture a like if it’s Instagram, but no caption reading! Lol! I am excited for To Kill a Shadow! It’s such a pretty cover and it sounds incredible! I hope you enjoy it once you read it!

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. It’s great you took a day off and sort of amazing you have finished Iron Flame. I’ve listened in bits and pieces all week. I can give it more attention this week. I hope you finish all that data entry part soon. I used to try to do errands / chores after work so I could have a day on the weekend to just do things I wanted to do. But sometimes that just doesn’t work out. Take care.

  4. SO I’m really late to the game with Rebecca Yarros and I just got the audiobook of Fourth Wing. Now I need to find time to listen – hopefully the beginning of 2024. Glad you loved the newest one!

  5. Wow, fun that you got to work the Iron Flame release! That would definitely be a perk of working the second job. Glad you got a day to just do stuff at home and spend some time with your daughter at an author event.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  6. I have been avoiding reviews for Iron Flame until I can listen to it. Probably won’t get to it until this weekend, though. How fun that you helped run the event! Happy to hear you got a day to stay at home and re-charge! Love working puzzles while listening to audios! I hope you get some rest, Carole! 🙂

  7. The Iron Flame party sounds fun! Not being shy is definitely a benefit though it does mean you end up getting volunteered to do anything involving public speaking – or at least that’s what happens to me! I love the puzzle! I’m torn between waiting out my library hold or going on and buying Iron Flame. It sounds like I need to just go on and get it! I hope you’re having a great week!

  8. The Iron Flame release party does sound like a lot of fun even. I hope you have had a good week. I ended up having to take most of the week off for work because of this dang virus. I muddled through today, but I am glad I was able to work from home and didn’t have to go into the office. It sounds like you read quite a few good books. The Fake Mate sounds like such fun. I hope you have a great weekend, Carole.
